São Joaquim is a municipality in the state of Santa Catarina, situated in southern Brazil. It is located at latitude 28° 17' 38" south and longitude 49° 55' 54" west, with an altitude of 1,360 meters (4,460 ft). Its population in 2020 was 27,139 inhabitants. Located in the Planalto Serrano, it lies 136 km from Tubarão, 81 km from Lages and 227 km from Florianópolis. The town is home to a variety of ethnic groups, including Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese and Afro-Brazilians. There are also many people from other states in Brazil, especially from Rio Grande do Sul.

As Primaveras is a 1859 poetry book by Brazilian Romantic poet Casimiro de Abreu. It was the last book written by Abreu, before his death from tuberculosis in 1860. It is considered his masterpiece.

Atlantida: mensário artístico, literário e social para Portugal e Brasil was a review published in Portugal and Brazil from 1915 to 1920. The magazine was headed by João de Barros and João do Rio, with a view that created an organ of a straight reciprocal proximity between the two countries. This proximities between "sister nations" occupies a central theme of a review during the First World War, here it understood with an "adequate moment" for creating ties with the two states, based on race, traditional and common history, and the notion of "latinity", and also, with Portuguese and Brazilian cultures, that it added more forms of expression.

Teixeira de Melo was a Brazilian doctor, journalist, historian and poet. He was born in Campos, Rio de Janeiro, on August 28, 1833, and died in Rio de Janeiro on April 10, 1907. He was the founder of Chair 6 of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, choosing as a patron the poet Casimiro de Abreu, who was his friend. He was replaced by Admiral Jaceguai.
