The 1963 Federation Cup was the first edition of what is now known as the Fed Cup. The tournament was created provide a team competition for women, similar to the Davis Cup men's competition. 16 nations participated in the first event, which was held at the Queen's Club in London, United Kingdom from 17–20 June. United States won the first title, defeating Australia in the final. [1]

The 1964 Federation Cup was the second edition of what is now known as the Fed Cup. 20 nations participated in the tournament, which was held at the Germantown Cricket Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, from 1–5 September. Australia won the title, defeating defending champions United States in the final.
The 1966 Federation Cup was the fourth edition of what is now known as the Fed Cup. 21 nations participated in the tournament, which was held at the Turin Press Sporting Club in Turin, Italy from 10–15 May. United States won their second title, defeating West Germany in the final, in what was the first final not featuring Australia.

Australia defeated the Netherlands in the final, in what was the first final not featuring United States, giving Australia their third title.

United States defeated Australia in the final, in what was the fourth final featuring both teams.

South Africa defeated Great Britain in the final, in what was the first final not featuring United States or Australia, giving South Africa their first title. South Africa became the first team other than United States or Australia to win the Fed Cup.

Czech Lawn Tennis Club in Prague, Czechoslovakia, from 20 to 27 July. The United States defeated three-time defending champions Czechoslovakia in the final, giving the USA their 12th title. The finals marked Martina Navratilova's first return to Czechoslovakia since her defection to the United States in 1975.

The tournament was held at Hollyburn Country Club in Vancouver, Canada, from 26 July – 2 August. West Germany won their first title, defeating the United States in the final. This was their first victory after four previous final appearances.
The 1990 Federation Cup was the 28th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. The tournament was held at the Peachtree World of Tennis in Peachtree Corners, GA, United States, from 21–29 July. The United States defeated the Soviet Union in the final, giving the USA their 14th and 2nd consecutive title.
