The 1980 Federation Cup was the 18th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. The tournament was held at the Rot-Weiss Tennis Club in West Berlin from 19 to 25 May. The United States won their fifth consecutive title, defeating Australia in their tenth and record eighth consecutive final. The US did not drop a single match during the tournament.
All ties were played at the Rot-Weiss Tennis Club in West Berlin, on clay courts.

The 1966 Federation Cup was the fourth edition of what is now known as the Fed Cup. 21 nations participated in the tournament, which was held at the Turin Press Sporting Club in Turin, Italy from 10–15 May. United States won their second title, defeating West Germany in the final, in what was the first final not featuring Australia.
The 1973 Federation Cup was the 11th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. 30 nations participated in the tournament, which was held at the Bad Homburg Tennis Club in Bad Homburg, West Germany from 30 April–6 May. Australia defeated South Africa in the final, winning the title without losing a rubber.
The 1974 Federation Cup was the 12th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. 29 nations participated in the tournament, which was held at the Naples Tennis Club in Naples, Italy, from 13–19 May. Australia defended their title, defeating United States in the final, in what was the fifth final featuring both United States and Australia.
The 1975 Federation Cup was the 13th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. 31 nations participated in the tournament, which was held at the Aixoise C.C., Aix-en-Provence, France, from 5–11 May. Czechoslovakia defeated Australia in the final, giving Czechoslovakia their first title.
The 1976 Federation Cup was the 14th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. For the first time, enough teams entered to necessitate pre-qualifying rounds. The tiebreaker also was used for the first time. The tournament was held at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, United States, from 22 to 29 August. The United States defeated Australia in the final, in what was the sixth final between United States and Australia.

The tournament was held at Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club in Eastbourne, United Kingdom, from 13–18 June. The United States defended their title, defeating Australia in their seventh final.

The tournament was held at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in Melbourne, Australia, from 27 November – 3 December. The United States won their third consecutive title, defeating Australia in their eighth final.

The tournament was held at the RSHE Club Campo in Madrid, Spain, from 30 April – 6 May. The United States won their fourth consecutive title, defeating Australia in their ninth final.
The 1981 Federation Cup was the 19th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. The tournament was held at the Tamagawa-en Racquet Club in Tokyo, Japan, from 9–15 November. The United States won their sixth consecutive title, defeating Great Britain in the final, in what was a rematch of the 1967 Federation Cup.

ČLTK Prague in Prague, Czechoslovakia, from 20 to 27 July. The United States defeated three-time defending champions Czechoslovakia in the final, giving the USA their 12th title. The finals marked Martina Navratilova's first return to Czechoslovakia since her defection to the United States in 1975.
