The Northern League was the top-flight ice hockey league in Scotland and initially northern England, from 1966. In 1982 it merged with the Inter-City League and the English League North to form the British Hockey League.
The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Star Catalog is an astrometric star catalogue, created by Smithsonian Institution, a research institute. It was published by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in 1966 and contains 258,997 stars. The catalogue was compiled from various previous astrometric catalogues, and contains only stars to about ninth magnitude for which accurate proper motions were known. Names in the SAO catalogue start with the letters SAO, followed by a number. The numbers are assigned following 18 ten-degree bands of declination, with stars sorted by right ascension within each band.

Edward Junge Hickox was an American basketball coach and administrator. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he coached the basketball team of Springfield College from 1926 to 1941, coached the American International College basketball team from 1944 to 1947, was a chairman of the National Basketball Rules Committee from 1945 to 1948, served on the board of directors of the Basketball Hall of Fame from 1959 to 1966 and was an executive secretary of the Hall of Fame from 1949 to 1963.
Hobartiidae is a family of beetles in the superfamily Cucujoidea. There are only two known genera, Hobartius and Hydnobioides, with six species, five of which are native to Australia, and one species of Hobartius native to Chile and Argentina in South America. Members of the family are mycophagous, living in rotten, fungus infested logs of Araucaria, Nothofagus, and Eucalyptus, where they feed on the fruiting bodies of basidiomycetes.

The 1966 United States elections were held on November 8, 1966, and elected the members of the 90th United States Congress. The election was held in the middle of Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson's second term, and during the Vietnam War. Johnson's Democrats lost forty-seven seats to the Republican Party in the House of Representatives. The Democrats also lost three seats in the U.S. Senate to the Republicans. Despite their losses, the Democrats retained control of both chambers of Congress. Republicans won a large victory in the gubernatorial elections, with a net gain of seven seats. This was the first election held after the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which led to a surge in African-American voter participation.
