The 1974 Croke Cup was the 23rd staging of the Croke Cup since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1944. The competition ran from 7 April to 28 April 1974.
St Peter's College were the defending champions, however, they were beaten by St Kieran's College in the Leinster final. [1] [2]
The final was played on 28 April 1974 at Fraher Field in Dungarvan, between St Finbarr's College and St Kieran's College, in what was their fourth meeting in the final and a first meeting in two years. [3] St Finbarr's College won the match by 2–11 to 1–12 to claim a fourth Croke Cup title overall and a first title in two years. [4] [5]

The All-Ireland Post-Primary Schools Croke Cup, is an annual inter-schools hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. It is the highest inter-schools hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year, except on two occasions, since 1944.
Charles McCarthy is an Irish former hurler who played as a left corner-forward at senior level for the Cork county team.
Timothy Crowley is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Newcestown and divisional side Carbery and was also a member of the Cork senior hurling team.
Daniel J. O'Grady, known as Dónal O'Grady, is an Irish former hurler and manager. At club level he was a dual player with St. Finbarr's, while he was also a member of the Cork senior hurling team.
Billy Fitzpatrick is an Irish former sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club the Fenians and was a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team from 1974 until 1986. Fitzpatrick captained Kilkenny to the All-Ireland title in 1975.
Michael G. O'Brien was an Irish Roman Catholic priest who was also a noted hurling coach and manager.
Denis Gerard Burns is an Irish former hurling manager and player who played as a right corner-back at senior level for the Cork county team.
Tadhg Murphy is an Irish former hurler and Gaelic footballer. At club level he played with Glanmire, Sarsfields and Imokilly and was a member of the Cork senior teams as a dual player. Murphy is best remembered for scoring a last-minute goal to deny Kerry a record ninth successive title in the 1983 Munster final.
