Kilkenny CBS were the defending champions, however, they were beaten by St Peter's College in the Leinster final. [1] [2] [3]

The final, a replay, was played on 16 May 1982 at Semple Stadium, Thurles, between St Flannan's College and the St Peter's College, in what was their first ever meeting in the final. [4] St Flannan's College won the match by 2–09 to 0–10 to claim a record-breaking eighth Croke Cup title and a first title in three years. [5] [6]

Tom Dempsey was the top scorer with 0–17.
