The 1981 Women's World Outdoor Bowls Championship [1] was held at the Willowdale Bowling Club in Toronto, Canada, from 1 to 15 August 1981. [2] Swaziland replaced Samoa two weeks before the competition started due to the Samoan General Strike
Norma Shaw of England won the singles Gold and double world champion Elsie Wilkie struggled with the difficult greens finishing last of 18. Jonathan Peter Wilkinson, CBE is an English former rugby union player. A fly-half, he played for Newcastle Falcons and Toulon and represented England and the British & Irish Lions. He is particularly known for scoring the winning drop goal in the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final and is widely acknowledged as one of the best rugby union players of all time.
Clifford Charles DevlinThorburn is a Canadian retired professional snooker player. Nicknamed "The Grinder" because of his slow, determined style of play, he won the World Snooker Championship in 1980, defeating Alex Higgins 18–16 in the final to become the first world champion in snooker's modern era from outside the United Kingdom. He remains the sport's only world champion from the Americas. He was runner-up in two other world championships, losing 21–25 to John Spencer in the 1977 final and 6–18 to Steve Davis in the 1983 final. The British Isles Bowls Championships is a tournament held between the champions of their respective nations, England Scotland, Wales, combined Ireland and more recently Guernsey and Jersey. It was first held in 1960 although the triples event did not start until 1977.
The Atlantic Bowls Championships was a lawn bowling competition held between national bowls organisations in the Atlantic region. The event was a qualifying event for the World Outdoor Bowls Championships until the 2021 announcement that it would no longer be held. Originally the Championships were for women only and were called the Atlantic Rim Championships. In 2007 men competed for the first time at the event.
