The 72nd running of the Tour of Flanders cycling classic was held on 3 April 1988. It was won by Eddy Planckaert in a two-man sprint with Australian Phil Anderson. 88 of 197 starters finished the race. [1] [2]
On the Berendries, 30 km from the finish, Marc Sergeant, Rudy Dhaenens and Phil Anderson broke clear, but Sean Kelly made his team work in pursuit. At the top of the Muur van Geraardsbergen, three riders, Adrie van der Poel, Eddy Planckaert and Phil Anderson, were ahead of the peloton. Van der Poel was dropped on the Bosberg and Anderson made several frantic efforts to distance the fast Planckaert on the final run-in towards Meerbeke. Planckaert, relying on his strong sprint finish, easily beat Anderson at the line. Van der Poel won the sprint for third place, 18 seconds behind Planckaert. The Tour of Flanders, also known as De Ronde, is an annual road cycling race held in Belgium every spring. The most important cycling race in Flanders, it is part of the UCI World Tour and organized by Flanders Classics. Its nickname is Vlaanderens Mooiste. First held in 1913, the Tour of Flanders had its 100th edition in 2016.
The 69th running of the Tour of Flanders cycling race took place on 7 April 1985. It was won by Belgian Eric Vanderaerden in an average speed of 39,605 km/h. The race was affected by abysmal weather, when a storm accompanied by wind and torrential rainfall, broke in the afternoon. Only 24 of 173 participants arrived.

The 67th running of the Tour of Flanders cycling classic was held on Sunday, 3 April 1983. Dutch rider Jan Raas claimed his second win in the monument race following a 20 km solo attack. His teammate Ludo Peeters won the sprint for second place at one-and-a-half minute. 38 of 188 riders finished.

Dutch rider Johan Lammerts won the monument race in his first attempt, following a late escape from a six-man group. Ireland's Sean Kelly won the sprint for second place at 25 seconds. 40 of 181 riders finished.
