The 1991 Pan Am Badminton Championships was the seventh edition of the Pan American Badminton Championships. The tournament was held from 17 to 23 June at the Convention Hall in Kingston, Jamaica. [1] Ten countries competed in the championships. Eight out of the ten competing countries competed in the mixed team event. Peru and the Cayman Islands only sent players to compete in the individual events.
Canada performed a clean sweep, winning gold in all six events. [2] The United States won three silver medals and two bronze medals. [3] Hosts Jamaica won a silver medal and four bronze medals. Debra O'Connor won Trinidad and Tobago's first medal in the Pan American championships when she achieved bronze in the women's doubles event with Maria Leyow.

Eight teams were divided into two groups of four, Group A and Group B. In Group A, Canada topped the group with 5–0 victories over Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. Jamaica placed second in the group, defeating both Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago 5–0. Suriname defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3–2 to finish third in the group.
In Group B, the United States beat Guatemala and Barbados 5–0. The team despite losing a match in the tie against Mexico advanced to the knockout stages after finishing the tie 4–1. Mexico had a major upset when they lost 3–2 to their Guatemalan opponents but managed to win 5–0 to secure their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage. Guatemala also had a major upset when the team lost 3–2 to Barbados. With Mexico, Guatemala and Barbados all tied with one point in the group, Mexico advanced to the knockout stages by match difference.

In the semi-finals of the mixed team event, both Canada and the United States defeated Mexico and Jamaica respectively with a score of 4–1. The bronze medal match saw Jamaica defeat Mexico 3–2 to claim their first medal in the Pan Am Mixed Team Championships. Canada defeated the United States 5–0 in the final to retain their title as Pan American mixed team champions.

The Badminton Pan Am (BPA) organisation is the governing body for the sport of badminton in the Americas and is recognized as such by the Badminton World Federation - BWF. It was founded as a continental governing body on February 13, 1976 in the headquarters of the Mexican Olympic Committee in Mexico City. The Pan American Badminton Confederation was founded by Badminton Canada, the Jamaica Badminton Association, Federacion Mexicana de Badminton, Comision Nacional de Badminton Peru and the United States Badminton Association. BPAC was founded in Mexico City in 1976 and had nominated Victor Jaramillo of Mexico as President until an official election was scheduled to take place at the first Pan Am Championships the following year. The first Badminton Pan Am Championships was held in Moncton, New Brunswick-Canada, in April 1977.
The badminton competition at the 1995 Pan American Games was held from 12 March to 16 March 1995, in CeNARD, Buenos Aires, Argentina. There were five medal events. Badminton made its debut at the Pan American Games at this edition.
The Badminton Competition at the 1999 Pan American Games was held from July 23 to August 8, 1999 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. There was a total of five events. At the end of the tournament, the host country Canada won three gold medals in the men's, women's and mixed doubles, while the United States captured two golds in the men's and women's singles.
The United States national badminton team represents the United States in international badminton team competitions. The national team is controlled by the governing body for badminton in the country, USA Badminton. The United States is one of the five founding members of the Badminton Pan America.
Virgil Soeroredjo is a former Surinamese badminton player and now coach. He competed for Suriname at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He also competed for Suriname at 3 Pan Am Games: the 2003 Pan American Games, the 2007 Pan American Games & the 2011 Pan American Games. As a young badminton player of the club SCVU in Suriname Virgil Soeroredjo won numerous juniors titles and was soon selected to represent his country abroad winning several juniors medals at Caribbean, Central American and South American events. Much of his success was with his doubles partner Mitchel Wongsodikromo.
Mitchel Arthur Wongsodikromo is a Surinamese badminton player and coach. He competed for Suriname at three Pan Am Games: 2003 Pan American Games, 2007 Pan American Games & the 2011 Pan American Games. As a very young badminton player of the club T.N.F. in Suriname Mitchel Wongsodikromo was an exceptional talent and won numerous juniors titles and was soon selected to represent his country abroad winning several juniors medals at Caribbean, Central American and South American events. Much of his success was with his doubles partner Virgil Soeroredjo.
Badminton competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 11 to 16 at the Markham Pan Am Centre in Markham. Due to naming rights the arena was known as the latter for the duration of the games. A total of five badminton events will be held: two each for men and women, along with a mixed doubles event.
Osleni Guerrero Velazco is a Cuban badminton player. He is the first Cuban badminton player to win a medal in the Pan American Games. Guerrero also competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The Carebaco International is an international badminton tournament of the "Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation" (Carebaco). Until 1999 the tournament was a closed event eligible only for Carebaco members, but to gain BWF World Ranking points since 1999 the Carebaco International tournament became a level 4 open individual event, now part of the BWF Future Series.
Sören Hans Brad Opti is a badminton player from Suriname. He is a two time Olympian, respresenting Suriname at the 2016 Rio Olympics and at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He was also selected to represent his country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, but had to stay home due to a positive Covid-test. During the opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympics, Opti was the flagbearer for Suriname. Opti participated in the 2014 and 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.
Oscar Roël Brandon is a Surinamese badminton player, coach and Olympic team manager. He competed for Suriname at the 1996 Summer Olympics as a badminton player in the Men's singles event. And he was "chef de mission" for Suriname at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Josephine Yuenling Wu is a Canadian badminton player. She clinched three Pan American Games gold medals by winning the mixed doubles title in 2019 and 2023, and in the women's doubles title in 2023. At the Pan Am Championships, she has won seven gold and five silver medals since her debut at the tournament in 2016.
Badminton competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru were held between July 29 and August 2, 2019 at the Polideportivo 3, which also hosted the roller sports (artistic) and table tennis competitions.

Peru is one of the five founding members of Badminton Pan America and one of the three founding members of the South American Badminton Confederation. The national team was formed in 1965.

The Barbados national badminton team represents Barbados in international badminton team competitions. The national team is managed by the Barbados Badminton Association in Bridgetown. Barbados have never medaled at the Pan American Badminton Championships. The Barbadian mixed team started participating in the Commonwealth Games mixed team event since 2010.
The Puerto Rico national badminton team represents Puerto Rico in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the Badminton Federation of Puerto Rico. The team is part of Badminton Pan America and the Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO).
The Trinidad and Tobago national badminton team represents Trinidad and Tobago in international badminton team competitions. It is managed by the Trinidad & Tobago Badminton Association. The team is affiliated to Badminton Pan America and the Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO).
The Aruba national badminton team represents Aruba in international badminton team competitions and is controlled by the Aruba Badminton Federation which is affiliated with Badminton Pan America and the Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO). The team first competed in their first international team tournament in 1990.
The 1993 Pan Am Badminton Championships was the eighth edition of the Pan American Badminton Championships. The tournament was held from 28 June to 4 July at the Guatemala National Badminton Hall inside Coliseo Deportivo in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Nine countries competed in the championships.
