The Barbados national badminton team represents Barbados in international badminton team competitions. [1] The national team is managed by the Barbados Badminton Association in Bridgetown. Barbados have never medaled at the Pan American Badminton Championships. The Barbadian mixed team started participating in the Commonwealth Games mixed team event since 2010.
The national team was formed after the formation of the Barbados Badminton Association in 1983. [2] The national team then competed in the Carebaco International tournaments organized by the Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO).
The Barbadian men's team competed in the 1994 Thomas Cup qualifiers. The team were placed into Group C with Iceland, Spain and Bulgaria. The team lost all of their matches to all three teams in the group. [3]
In 2010, the team competed in the 2012 Thomas Cup Preliminaries but were eliminated in the group stages. [4] The team then competed in the 2018 Pan Am Badminton Championships. The team were grouped with Canada and Peru. The team lost 5–0 to both teams and placed 6th in the final standings after losing 3–0 to Dominican Republic in the fifth place tie. [5] [6]
The Barbadian women's team took part in qualifying for the 2002 Uber Cup. The team finished at the bottom of the group after losing 5–0 against the United States, Italy and Cuba. [7] In 2012, the team competed in the 2012 Uber Cup Preliminaries. Although the team did not qualify for the 2012 Uber Cup, they managed to win 3–2 against Puerto Rico to finish 4th in the tournament. [8]
Barbados first competed in the 1990 CAREBACO Team Championships and finished as runners-up after almost beating Trinidad and Tobago in the final.
In 2009, the Barbadian team lost against the United States but won 3–1 against Dominican Republic to place 6th at the 2009 Pan Am Badminton Championships. [9] In 2010, the team debuted in the Commonwealth Games team event. The team were eliminated in the group stages but won 4–1 against Kenya in the group. In 2018, the team made history by winning the CAREBACO Team Championships after defeating Suriname 3–1 in the final. The team competed in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The team won a match against Mauritius when Shae Martin and Sabrina Scott defeated Tejraj Pultoo and Kobita Dookhee 21–17, 16–21, 21–19. [10]

The United States national badminton team represents the United States in international badminton team competitions. The national team is controlled by the governing body for badminton in the country, USA Badminton. The woman's team has won a total of 3 consecutive titles in the Uber Cup from 1957 to 1963. The men's team were runners-up at the 1952 edition of the Thomas Cup where they lost to Malaya.
Michelle Li is a Canadian badminton player. Li is the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion and the first Canadian to win an individual gold medal in women's singles badminton at the Commonwealth Games. She has won gold in both singles and doubles at the Pan American Games and won the singles and team event titles from the Pan American Badminton Championships. As a competitor for Ontario, Li also won singles, doubles, and mixed team titles at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
The 2012 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 27th tournament of the Thomas Cup and 24th international badminton tournament of the Uber Cup. It was held from May 20–27, 2012 at the Wuhan Sports Center Stadium in Wuhan, China.
Mitchel Arthur Wongsodikromo is a Surinamese badminton player and coach. He competed for Suriname at three Pan Am Games: 2003 Pan American Games, 2007 Pan American Games & the 2011 Pan American Games. As a very young badminton player of the club T.N.F. in Suriname Mitchel Wongsodikromo was an exceptional talent and won numerous juniors titles and was soon selected to represent his country abroad winning several juniors medals at Caribbean, Central American and South American events. Much of his success was with his doubles partner Virgil Soeroredjo.
The Australia national badminton team represents Australia in international badminton team competitions. The national team is controlled by Badminton Australia, the top governing body for badminton in the country.
The Carebaco International is an international badminton tournament of the "Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation" (Carebaco). Until 1999 the tournament was a closed event eligible only for Carebaco members, but to gain BWF World Ranking points since 1999 the Carebaco International tournament became a level 4 open individual event, now part of the BWF Future Series.
Sören Hans Brad Opti is a badminton player from Suriname. He is an Olympian, respresenting Suriname at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He was also selected to represent his country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, but due to a positive Covid-test had to stay home. In the 2016 Olympics Opti was the flagbearer for Suriname during the opening ceremony. Opti participated at the 2014 and 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.
Oscar Roël Brandon is a Surinamese badminton player, coach and Olympic team manager. He competed for Suriname at the 1996 Summer Olympics as a badminton player in the Men's singles event. And he was "chef de mission" for Suriname at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Dakeil Jonathan Thorpe is a Barbadian badminton player. Thorpe competed at the 2010, 2014, and 2018 Commonwealth Games. He also represented his country at the 2015 and 2019 Pan American Games. He was the men's doubles champion at the 2018 Carebaco International with Shae Michael Martin and at the 2016 Suriname International tournament partnered with Cory Fanus. Thorpe also won the mixed doubles event at the 2016 Carebaco International with Tamisha Williams.
Dylan Darmohoetomo is a Surinamese badminton player and coach. He is a member of the Surinamese badminton club Perfect Flying Feathers (P.F.F.). He was the flagbearer for Suriname at the 2019 Pan Am Games
Dennis Coke is a Jamaican badminton player who competed at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore. In 2009, he won the boys' singles and doubles at the All Jamaica Junior Championships. At the BWF International tournament, he was the men's doubles runner-up at the 2015 Carebaco International and mixed doubles runner-up at the 2017 Jamaica International. He also won the bronze medal at the 2016 Pan Am Badminton Championships in the mixed doubles event partnered with Wynter. In 2017, he won the Jamaican National Badminton Championships in the men's singles and doubles event partnered with Anthony McNee. Coke was part of the national team that won the men's team bronze at the 2018 Pan Am Men's Team Championships. In 2018, he competed at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
The Algeria national badminton team represents Algeria in international badminton team competitions. The team made their first-ever appearance at the Thomas Cup in 2018. The Algerian team have never qualified for the Uber Cup and the Sudirman Cup.
The Wales national badminton team represents Wales in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by Badminton Wales, the national organization for badminton in the country. Wales have never participated in the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup. The team's last appearance in the international stage was at the 2007 Sudirman Cup.
The Belgium national badminton team represents Belgium in international badminton team competitions and is controlled by the Royal Belgian Badminton Federation. The Belgium national team have never qualified for the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup. The last time Belgium competed in the Sudirman Cup was in 2007.
The Belarus national badminton team represents Belarus in international badminton team competitions. The Belarusian team is managed by the Belarusian Badminton Federation (BBF) which organizes badminton championships and prepares Belarusian national badminton teams. The team was formed in 1992 after the association was found.
The Zambia national badminton team represents Zambia in international badminton team competitions. The team is controlled by the Zambia Badminton Association.
The Burundi national badminton team represents Burundi in international badminton team competitions. The Burundian Federation of Badminton manages the national team. The Burundian team have competed in the 2010 Thomas & Uber Cups Preliminaries for Africa where the Burundian women's team reached the semifinals and won bronze.
The Zimbabwe national badminton team represents Zimbabwe in international team competitions and is controlled by the Zimbabwe Badminton Association, the governing body for Zimbabwean badminton. It is affiliated with the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA).
The Costa Rica national badminton team represents Costa Rica in international badminton team competitions. The Costa Rican junior team have competed in the BWF World Junior Championships mixed team event, which is also called the Suhandinata Cup.
The Guyana national badminton team represents Guyana in international badminton team competitions. The Guyanese junior team have competed in the BWF World Junior Championships mixed team event, which is also called the Suhandinata Cup. The Guyanese team have never competed in the Pan American Badminton Championships.
