The XXI 2017 Pan Am Badminton Championships were held as two events in different counties. From 16 to 19 February, the team event was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. From 27 to 30 April, the individual event was held in Havana, Cuba. [1] [2]

In the team event, Canada national badminton team won the gold medal after beating Brazil national badminton team with the score 3–0 in the men's singles, women's singles and men's doubles events. [5]

The 1999 Pan American Games, officially the XIII Pan American Games or the 13th Pan American Games, was a major international multi-sport event that was held from July 23 to August 8, 1999, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and surrounding towns and cities. Canoeing competitions started the day before the games officially begun. Approximately 5,000 athletes from 42 nations participated at the games. She played in the 2014 World Championship reaching also the fifth place and ranking 17th in the 2010 World Championship and the 2011 FIVB World Cup where her national team ranked eight and the 2015 FIVB World Cup, winning the Best Libero individual award and ranking in seventh place.

Yaima Ortiz Charro is a retired Cuban volleyball player and model, who competed in the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics.

Mitchel Arthur Wongsodikromo is a Surinamese badminton player and coach. He competed for Suriname at three Pan Am Games: 2003 Pan American Games, 2007 Pan American Games & the 2011 Pan American Games. As a very young badminton player of the club T.N.F. in Suriname Mitchel Wongsodikromo was an exceptional talent and won numerous juniors titles and was soon selected to represent his country abroad winning several juniors medals at Caribbean, Central American and South American events. Much of his success was with his doubles partner Virgil Soeroredjo.
