Osleni Guerrero Velazco (born 18 October 1989) is a Cuban badminton player. He is the first Cuban badminton player to win a medal in the Pan American Games. [2] Guerrero also competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics. [3]

Career

Guerrero, born in Havana, started competing in badminton in 2000, and joined the national team in 2005. [1] As a junior player he won the under-19 category at the 2007 Pan Am Junior Badminton Championships held at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he beat first seed Howard Shu of the US, 21–13, 21–10 in the final. [1]

Guerrero won a bronze medal in the men's singles event at the 2015 Pan Am Games, losing the semi-final to Canadian Andrew D'Souza. [4] In the 2011 Pan American Games he made history, reaching the final and a silver [an Am Games medal for Cuba at badminton for the first time. He eventually lost that final to first seeded Kevin Cordón of Guatemala with 13–21, 19–21.

Guerrero competed in 2014 and 2015 BWF World Championships. He is a member of the Cuban national badminton team since 2005. He twice won the continental Pan American Badminton Championship. First in 2013 [5] at Santo Domingo, [6] beating first seeded American Sattawat Pongnairat 17–21, 21–6, 21–16 in a close 51 minutes final. In 2014 at Markham [7] venue, he successfully defended his Pan American badminton title, this time beating another American Bjorn Seguin in another close fought final of 58 minutes with 19–21, 21–14, and 21–13. [8] Guerrero won many events in the Pan American Badminton circuit. [9] [10] [11] [12] [13]

At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Guerrero played the men's singles event in Group J with Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia, and Howard Shu of United States. He placed second in the group standing after won a match to Shu, but lost to Sugiarto. [3] He won the silver medal at the 2017 Pan Am Championships defeated by the Brazilian Ygor Coelho de Oliveira in the final. [14]

In 2018, he won four medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games, a gold medal in the mixed doubles, also three silver medals in the men's singles, doubles, and team events.

In 2019, he reached the finals at the Pan Am Championships in two different events, won a gold medal in the men's singles event.

Phillip Hung Chew is an American badminton player. He won two gold medals in men's and mixed doubles at the 2015 Pan American Games. Chew also participated in the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. He won the 2021 Pan Am Badminton Championships doubles with his brother Ryan Chew. He trains at the Orange County Badminton Club, which is founded by his grandfather, Don Chew.

Mitchel Arthur Wongsodikromo is a Surinamese badminton player and coach. He competed for Suriname at three Pan Am Games: 2003 Pan American Games, 2007 Pan American Games & the 2011 Pan American Games. As a very young badminton player of the club T.N.F. in Suriname Mitchel Wongsodikromo was an exceptional talent and won numerous juniors titles and was soon selected to represent his country abroad winning several juniors medals at Caribbean, Central American and South American events. Much of his success was with his doubles partner Virgil Soeroredjo.

Lohaynny Caroline de Oliveira Vicente is a Brazilian badminton player who has qualified to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in her home city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Daniel Vasconcellos Paiola is a Brazilian badminton player. He became the first Brazilian badminton player to win an individual medal in the Pan American Games when he won a bronze in the men's singles event at the 2011 Games, losing in the semi-finals to Guatemalan Kevin Cordón. He has medaled ten at the Pan American Badminton Championships, and is a one-time national champion.

Ernesto Reyes Milian is a Cuban badminton player. He competed at the 2015 Pan American Games. Reyes was the bronze medalists at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games in the men's doubles and team event. He won the Giraldilla International tournament in the men's doubles event partnered with Ronald Toledo in 2012, and with Leodannis Martínez in 2016. He competed at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, and helped the team win the silver medal.

Dylan Darmohoetomo is a Surinamese badminton player and coach. He is a member of the Surinamese badminton club Perfect Flying Feathers (P.F.F.). He was the flagbearer for Suriname at the 2019 Pan Am Games

Jason Anthony Ho-Shue is a Canadian badminton player. He won the gold medal in the men's doubles at the 2019 Pan American Games, and at the Pan Am Championships in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. He also won the men's singles title at the Pan Am Championships in 2016.

Josephine Yuenling Wu is a Canadian badminton player. She clinched three Pan American Games gold medals by winning the mixed doubles title in 2019 and 2023, and also the women's doubles title in 2023. At the Pan Am Championships, she has won seven gold and five silver medals since her debut at the tournament in 2016.

Leodannis Martínez Palacio is a Cuban badminton player. In 2014, Martínez placed third at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games in the men's doubles and mixed team event. Ty Alexander Lindeman is a Canadian badminton player. He won the gold medals in the mixed doubles at the 2023 Pan American Games; also at the 2018 and 2022 Pan Am Championships.

Kevin Li is a Canadian badminton player from the Lee's badminton club. In 2013, he won the silver medal at the Pan Am Championships in the men's doubles event partnered with Nyl Yakura, they were defeated by their compatriots Adrian Liu and Derrick Ng in the finals round. In the team event he won the gold medal.
