Aberdeen City Council is the local authority for Aberdeen City, one of the 32 council areas of Scotland. In its modern form it was created in 1996. Aberdeen was formerly governed by a corporation from when it was made a burgh in the twelfth century until 1975. Between 1975 and 1996 the city was governed by City of Aberdeen District Council, a lower-tier authority within the Grampian region.
Glasgow City Council is the local government authority for Glasgow City council area, Scotland. In its modern form it was created in 1996. Glasgow was formerly governed by a corporation, also known as the town council, from the granting of its first burgh charter in the 1170s until 1975. From 1975 until 1996 the city was governed by City of Glasgow District Council, a lower-tier authority within the Strathclyde region.
In the context of local authorities in the United Kingdom, no overall control is a situation in which no single political group achieves a majority of seats, comparably to a hung parliament. Of the 248 councils who had members up for election in the 2019 local elections, 73 resulted in a NOC administration. In the 2021 local elections, 14 resulted in no overall control. Outside of the UK, the term may be applied to other local authorities, such as the local councils of Malta and the General Assembly of Budapest in Hungary.

Leicester has had a council from medieval times, which has been reformed on numerous occasions. Since 1997 the council has been a unitary authority, being a district council which also performs the functions of a county council; it is independent from Leicestershire County Council.

The whole council was up for election with boundary changes since the last election in 1998 increasing the number of seats by 1. The Liberal Democrats lost overall control of the council to no overall control.

The 2015 United Kingdom local elections were held on Thursday 7 May 2015, the same day as the general election for the House of Commons.
Municipal elections were held in San Diego in 2014 for city council and propositions. The primary election was held on June 3, 2014, and the general election was held on November 4, 2014. Four of the nine seats of the San Diego City Council were contested. Two city council incumbents ran for re-election in their same district and one ran for election in a new district due to redistricting.
The 2015 Winchester City Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect members of Winchester City Council in England. In total, 20 out of 57 council seats were up for election. The Conservatives gained majority control of Winchester City Council from No Overall Control, following the defection of two former Conservative councillors to the Liberal Democrats in 2014.
The 2015 Indianapolis City–County Council elections took place on November 3, 2015. With all 25 seats up for election, this was the first for the council with newly redrawn districts and without the four at-large seats, which were eliminated by the Republican-controlled Indiana General Assembly in 2013. Before the elections Democrats held a 15–14 seat majority. Primaries for the council were held on May 5, 2015, with a handful of races being very close. The closest finish came in district one, with two Democratic incumbents forced into a run-off election because of the redistricting. Leroy Robinson defeated Angela Mansfield by only 26 votes. Following the elections Democrats maintained control of the council with a 13–12 majority. In the Indianapolis mayoral election held at the same time, Democrat Joe Hogsett beat Republican Chuck Brewer. This was only the second time in the history of Indianapolis that Democrats controlled both the mayor's office and the council.
The 2018 United Kingdom local elections were held on Thursday 3 May 2018, with local council elections taking place in all 32 London boroughs, 34 metropolitan boroughs, 67 district and borough councils and 17 unitary authorities. There were also direct elections for the mayoralties of Hackney, Lewisham, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Watford.

The 2019 Indianapolis City–County Council elections took place on November 5, 2019 with all 25 seats up for election. Before the elections Democrats held a 14–11-seat majority. Primaries for the council were held May 7, 2019. Following the elections Democrats expanded their control of the council with a 20–5 majority. This marked the first time in Indianapolis history that Democrats would hold a super majority on the council. In the Indianapolis mayoral election held at the same time, Democrat Joe Hogsett beat Republican Jim Merritt 72% to 27%.
The 2022 Coventry City Council election took place on 5 May 2022. One third of councillors — 18 out of 54 — on Coventry City Council were elected. The election took place alongside other local elections across the United Kingdom.

The 2022 Orange County Board of Supervisors elections were held on June 7 and November 8, 2022. Three of the five seats of the Orange County, California Board of Supervisors were up for election. This was the first set of elections held after the 2020 redistricting cycle. County elections in California are officially nonpartisan. A two-round system was used for the election, starting with the first round in June. Runoffs were held in all three districts, as no candidate managed to reach the 50% + 1 threshold.
