Glasgow City Council local government body of the city of Glasgow in Scotland

Glasgow City Council is the local government authority for the City of Glasgow, Scotland. It was created in 1996 under the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994, largely with the boundaries of the post-1975 City of Glasgow district of the Strathclyde region.

1999 Scottish local elections

The Scottish local elections, 1999 were held on 6 May 1999, the same day as First Scottish Parliament elections. It was the second election for all 32 Scottish councils and the first after a major review into all wards.

1994 Scottish regional elections

Regional elections were held in Scotland on 5 May 1994, as part of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973. These were the last elections before 29 new mainland unitary authorities, established by the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994, came into effect. The councils up for election were last contested in 1990 Scottish regional elections, and vote and seat changes are compared to the 1990 results.

1992 Scottish local elections

Local elections were held in Scotland in May 1992, to elect members to all 53 district councils. It was the last local election held under the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, which had established the two-tier system of regions and districts. Regional and district councils were abolished in 1996, and replaced with 29 new mainland unitary authorities under the terms of the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994.

1982 Strathclyde Regional Council election

The second election to Strathclyde Regional Council was held on 6 May 1982 and yielded a significant Labour majority. The election saw the Labour majority increase its majority from 45 to 55.

1982 Lothian Regional Council election

The second election to Lothian Regional Council was held on 6 May 1982 and yielded a swing to the Conservatives. Whilst the Labour presence was reduced, the Conservatives were unable to win an outright majority, and both parties exited the election with 22 seats. The council Conservative group, under Brian Meek, was able to take over the council however due to support from the SDP-Liberal Alliance councillors.

1995 City of Edinburgh Council election Scottish municipal election

Elections for the City of Edinburgh Council took place on Thursday 6 April 1995, alongside elections to the various newly created unitary councils across Scotland.

Elections for the Glasgow City District Council took place on 3 May 1977, alongside elections to the councils of Scotland's various other districts. These was the second election to the City of Glasgow District Council, and saw Labour losing their control of the council, losing nearly half of their councillors. Among the losing councillors was Dick Dynes, the Labour group leader. Dynes was replaced as leader by Jean McFadden.

Elections to Glasgow City Council were held on 6 May 1999, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections.

1995 Glasgow City Council election

Elections to Glasgow City Council were held on April 6, 1995, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections. The election was the first for the Glasgow City Council; a unitary authority which had been created by the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994 out of parts of the former City of Glasgow District Council ; wards in Rutherglen and Cambuslang transferred from Glasgow to the new South Lanarkshire area.

The fifth election to Tayside Regional Council was held on 3 May 1990 as part of the wider 1990 Scottish regional elections and British local elections. The election saw the council remain under no overall control, with Labour keeping their position as the single largest party on the 46 seat council.

1990 Shetland Islands Council election Fifth election to Orkney Islands Council

An election to the Shetland Islands Council was held on 3 May 1990 as part of regional elections. Independents maintained control of the 25 seat council. The Shetland Movement gained one seat, bringing their total to six. Only 11 seats were contested, with 14 candidates elected unopposed.

1990 Highland Regional Council election

The 1990 Highland Regional Council election to the Highland Regional Council was held on 3 May 1990 as part of the wider 1990 Scottish regional elections. The election saw Independents win control of 36 of the councils 52 seats.

Elections to Aberdeenshire Council were held on 6 May 1999; the same day as elections to the Scottish Parliament and to the 31 other Scottish local authorities. 68 councillors were elected from 68 wards using First Past The Post (FPTP). This election was conducted under boundary changes with an increased number of seats from the 47 used in the 1995 election. The Liberal Democrats were the largest party, with councillors also being elected representing the SNP, Independents, and Conservatives.

The 1990 Borders Regional Council election, the fifth election to Borders Regional Council, was held on 3 May 1990 as part of the wider 1990 Scottish regional elections. The election saw the Independents gain a majority on the 23 seat council.

1990 Central Regional Council election Fifth election to Central Regional Council

The 1990 Central Regional Council election, the fifth election to Central Regional Council, was held on 3 May 1990 as part of the wider 1990 Scottish regional elections. The election saw the Labour retain a majority on the 34 seat council.

1990 Dumfries and Galloway Regional Council election Fifth election to Dumfries and Galloway Regional Council

The 1990 Dumfries and Galloway Regional Council election, the fifth election to Dumfries and Galloway Regional Council, was held on 3 May 1990 as part of the wider 1990 Scottish regional elections. The election saw the Independents' majority cut to 1 councillor, but enough to keep control of the 35 seat council.

The 1990 Grampian Regional Council election, the fifth election to Grampian Regional Council, was held on 3 May 1990 as part of the wider 1990 Scottish regional elections. The election saw Labour take the most seats, with the Conservatives falling sharply to finish fourth in terms of councillors. The SNP had the highest vote share, and turnout was 41.0%, the lowest for any region in Scotland

1990 Orkney Islands Council election Fifth election to Orkney Islands Council

The 1990 Orkney Islands Council election, the fifth election to Orkney Islands Council, was held on 3 May 1990 as part of the wider 1990 Scottish regional elections. The election saw the Independents take all save one of the seats on the council, securing them an overall majority.
