The 2000 Kazakhstan Top Division was the ninth season of the Top Division, now called the Kazakhstan Premier League, the highest football league competition in Kazakhstan. [1] [2] [3]
Following the conclusion of the previous season, no teams were relegated or promoted. Prior to the start of the season, Sintez became Tomiris, Access-Esil became Access-Golden Grain whilst Akmola moved back to Kokshetau.
During the middle of the season, Batyr withdrew due to financial problems, and Tomiris and Zhiger merged to form Dostyk. Dostyk were awarded the points that Tomiris had accumulated, whilst Zhiger were treated as having technical losses (0:3) in all remaining games.

Football Club Kairat is a professional football club based in Almaty, which plays in the Kazakhstan Premier League, the highest level of Kazakh football. Founded in 1954 as Lokomotiv Alma-Ata, they became Urozhay in 1955 and Kairat in 1956. The club's home ground is the Central Stadium which has a capacity of 23,804. The club's home kit colours are yellow and black striped shirts, black shorts and black socks.
FC Ordabasy is a professional football club from Kazakhstan based at the Kazhimukan Munaitpasov Stadium in Shymkent. Ordabasy was formed in 1949, following the merger of two existing Kazakhstan Premier League sides, FC Zhiger and FC Tomiris.
The Kazakhstan Professional Football League, commonly referred to as Kazakh Premier League or simply Premier League, is the top division of football in Kazakhstan. The League is controlled by the Football Federation of Kazakhstan and was set up in 1992. The League is fed into by the First Division and starts in spring and finishes in late autumn because of the low temperatures in the winter, with each championship corresponding to a calendar year. The majority of matches have been played at weekends in recent seasons.
