The 2003 Indian Federation Cup, also known as 2003 Tata Federation Cup due to sponsorship reasons, [1] was the 25th season of the Indian Federation Cup. It was held between 26 July and 9 August 2003. Defending champions Mohun Bagan were eliminated by Mohammedan Sporting in the semi-final, who faced Mahindra United in the final. Mahindra United went on to win their maiden title with Shanmugam Venkatesh scoring the winner for them in the 78th minute. [2] Raphaël Patron Akakpo of Mahindra United finished the tournament as the top-scorer with three goals. [3]
The All India Football Federation announced on 11 May 2003 that the tournament would commence on 25 July 2003 and completed on 8 August. [4] The date of commencement was revised to 26 July in an announcement made on 10 July. The tournament made a return after a year's break. [5] The Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata was announced as the venue of the matches and that 16 teams would compete. [6] The fixtures were announced on the same day. [6] While all matches were played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, the third quarter-final between Mahindra United and Air India was played at the Sailen Manna Stadium (then called Howrah Municipal Stadium) in order "to rest and repair the pitch" (former stadium). [7]
Two new features were added for the tournament. Doping tests were conducted according to guidelines laid down by FIFA in that "random sampling of a player of each team selected by the draw of lots" was conducted. Secondly, players and match officials were brought under an personal accident policy of ₹100,000, while the spectators, including the media, were covered under a similar policy of ₹50,000. [5]
All teams that competed in the 2002–03 season of the National Football League were included in the tournament alongside the top four teams from the National Football League Second Division, the hitherto second tier of the Indian football league system. [5]

In case of a tie at regular time, extra time with golden goal was used. In case scores remain tied even after extra time, penalty shoot-out was used.

The Salt Lake Stadium, officially known as Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK), is a football stadium located in Salt Lake city, Greater Kolkata, with a capacity of 68,000 spectators. Named after Swami Vivekananda, the stadium is one of the home grounds of East Bengal FC and Mohun Bagan SG. The stadium hosted the final match of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, alongside other matches of the tournament.
The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup was the 17th FIFA U-17 World Cup, a biennial international football tournament contested by men's under-17 national teams. Organised by FIFA, the tournament took place in India from 6 to 28 October 2017, after the country was awarded the hosting rights on 5 December 2013. The tournament marked the first time India hosted a FIFA tournament and the fifth Asian country to host U-17 World Cup after China in 1985, Japan in 1993, South Korea in 2007 and United Arab Emirates in 2013. The attendance for this World Cup was a record 1,347,133, surpassing China's record in 1985 with 1,230,976.

The matches were played across three locations in West Bengal, namely Kolkata, Howrah and Kalyani from 2 August 2019. The final took place at the Salt Lake Stadium on 24 August 2019.

The 2024 Indian Super League final was the 10th Indian Super League final match played to determine the 2023–24 ISL Cup winners. The match was played on 4 May 2024 between Mohun Bagan SG and Mumbai City at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. It marked the conclusion of the 2023–24 Indian Super League playoffs.
