Jo Paul Ancheri (born 2 August 1976) is an Indian professional football manager and former player, who is currently the assistant coach of Super League Kerala club Forca Kochi FC. He also had captained the India national football team. [2] He was named the AIFF Player of the Year by the All India Football Federation in 1994 and 2001. [3] He recently worked as a Malayalam commentator and pundit on Star Sports Malayalam with the leading commentator Shaiju Damodaran. [4]
Born in Thrissur, Kerala, Ancheri began his professional career in 1992 playing for State Bank of Travancore. [5] He went on to play for many leading football clubs including Mohun Bagan, JCT Mills, [6] [7] FC Kochin, [8] and East Bengal. He was a versatile player who could play in any position including defender, defensive midfielder, midfielder, and striker. [9] With JCT Mills Phagwara, he won the 1996–97 National Football League. [10]
Ancheri made his senior international debut for India against Bangladesh on 14 September 1994 in a 4–2 win, when he scored a goal. [11] Ancheri was also a member of the Indian team for the Nehru Gold Cup in Calcutta, and of the under-23 side, which took part in the pre-Olympic tournament. He later suffered a knee injury for the rest of the season and came back with the colours of FC Kochin in 1997. [12]
Ancheri played in a number of tournaments such as FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the SAFF Championship, and the South Asian Games, and helped the team win the South Asian Football Federation Cup in 1999. [13] [14] He was part of the Syed Naeemuddin-managed Indian team that participated in the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok and reached the second round. [15] [16]
With India, he appeared in the 2002 World Cup Qualifiers, when India defeated teams like United Arab Emirates, Brunei and Yemen. India secured 11 points from 6 matches, the same as Yemen, but finished behind them due to an inferior goal difference. [17] In that year, Ancheri was part of the Bhaichung Bhutia-led Indian team that won the LG Cup, defeating the host nation Vietnam 3–2. [18] He later appeared in the 2003 Afro-Asian Games, when India finished as runners-up behind Uzbekistan. [19]

Association football is one of the four most-popular sports in India, the others being Cricket,Kabaddi and Hockey. The Santosh Trophy is a knock-out competition among Indian states and government institutions.
The National Football League (NFL) was the men's highest level of the Indian football league system from 1996 to 2007. Founded by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in 1996, the NFL was the first football league in India to be organized on a national scale. The AIFF then added a second division in 1997 and a third division was soon added by the governing body in 2006. The NFL was eventually replaced by the I-League for the 2007–08 season in order to professionalize the sport in India.
The Durand Cup is an annual domestic football competition in India which was first held in 1888 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Hosted by the Durand Football Tournament Society (DFTS) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the tournament is the oldest existing club football tournament in Asia and the fifth oldest national football competition in the world. The tournament currently serves as the curtain raiser for every Indian football season. It is open for any national club of any divisions, with guest invitee teams from different sections of the Indian Armed Forces, keeping the century long tradition intact.
Inivalappil Mani Vijayan, also known by the nickname Kalo Hiran (Blackbuck), is a former professional football player who also captained the India national football team. He played as a striker, where he formed a successful attacking partnership with Bhaichung Bhutia for the India national football team in the late nineties and early 2000s. Vijayan was crowned Indian Player of the Year in 1993, 1997 and 1999, the first player to win the award multiple times. He was also awarded the Arjuna Award in 2003.
Jagatjit Cotton & Textile Football Club is an Indian football academy based in Phagwara, Punjab. Founded in 1971, the club was sponsored by Jagatjit Cotton and Textile Mills under the leadership of Samir Thapar and participated in the National Football League which was later renamed I-League. They also participated in Punjab State Super Football League under licence from Punjab Football Association. The senior squad was disbanded in 2011.

Inder Singh is an Indian former football player and captain, manager and administrator. He played for Leaders Club of Jalandhar, JCT Mills, and the India national team, predominantly as a forward.
