The 1997 Indian Federation Cup Final was the 20th final of the Indian Federation Cup, the top knock-out competition in India, and was contested between Kolkata giant East Bengal and Salgaocar of Goa on 20 July 1997 at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

Salgaocar won the final 21 courtesy of a Golden goal by Bruno Coutinho in the extra-time to claim their third Federation Cup title. [1] [2]

East Bengal entered the 1997 Indian Federation Cup as the defending champions. In the pre-quarter finals, East Bengal faced Integral Coach Factory and won 30 with goals from Naushad Moosa, Renedy Singh and Arumugam Saravanan. [3] In the quarter-finals, East Bengal defeated Mohammedan Sporting 40 as Nazimul Haq scored twice, Naushad Moosa and Bhaichung Bhutia scored the other two. [4] In the semi-finals, East Bengal defeated their arch-rivals Mohun Bagan 41 in the famous Diamond Derby in front of a record 131,781 crowd at the Salt Lake Stadium. [5] Bhaichung Bhutia scored a hattrick while Nazimul Haq scored the other for East Bengal. Chima Okorie scored the only goal for Bagan as East Bengal reached their fourth consecutive final. [6]

Salgaocar entered the 1997 Indian Federation Cup as one of the National League teams. In the pre-quarter finals, Salgaocar defeated Mizo Highlanders 60 to reach the last eight of the tournament where they faced Border Security Force. In the quarter-finals, Salgaocar defeated Border Security force 43 via penalty shootout after the game ended 11 after added extra time. Bruno Coutinho scored for Salgaocar while Prasanta Das had scored for BSF. [7] In the semi-finals, Salgaocar faced the runner-up from the previous edition Dempo and won 10 courtesy of a solitary goal from Bruno Coutinho as they reached the final. [6]

The 1997 Indian Federation Cup, also known as 1997 Kalyani Black Label Federation Cup due to sponsorship reasons, was the 20th season of the Indian Federation Cup. The tournament was held between 14 June and 20 July 1997. It was won by Salgaocar, who beat defending champions East Bengal 2–1 in the final. Salgaocar's captain Bruno Coutinho was named player of the tournament.

The second semi-final of the 1997 Indian Federation Cup was played between arch-rivals East Bengal and Mohun Bagan at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on 13 July 1997. Called the Kolkata Derby, the match was won by East Bengal 4–1 courtesy of a hat-trick, from Bhaichung Bhutia. Nazim-ul-Haque opened the scoring early on for East Bengal before Bhutia's goal took the lead to 2–0. Chima Okorie managed to pull one back for Mohun Bagan in the second half, but Bhutia's twin strikes in four minutes sealed the game for East Bengal.

The 1998 Indian Federation Cup, also known as 1998 Kalyani Black Label Federation Cup due to sponsorship reasons, was the 21st season of the Indian Federation Cup. It was held between 23 August and 12 September 1998. Salgaocar were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the first round by State Bank of Travancore. Mohun Bagan won the tournament for the tenth time, following a 2–1 over East Bengal in the final played at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata, a replay of the previous edition's semifinal when the latter won. Amit Das and Hemanta Dora of Mohun Bagan were named the Player and Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

East Bengal Football Club is an Indian association football club based in Kolkata, West Bengal, which competes in the top tier of Indian football. The club was formed when the vice-president of Jorabagan, Suresh Chandra Chaudhuri, resigned when Jorabagan sent out their starting eleven but with the notable exclusion of defender Sailesh Bose who was dropped from the squad for reasons not disclosed when they were about to face Mohun Bagan in the Coochbehar Cup Semi-Final on 28 July 1920. He along with Raja Manmatha Nath Chaudhuri, Ramesh Chandra Sen, and Aurobinda Ghosh, formed East Bengal, in Jorabagan home of Suresh Chandra on 1 August 1920; 99 years ago. The 2003–04 season was East Bengal Football Club's 8th season in the National Football League, and also marked the club's 84th season. East Bengal successfully defended their league title from the previous season, competing in the 2003-04 NFL. They have also won the 2003 Calcutta Football League and the 2003 ASEAN Club Championship. They became runners-up in the 2003 Super Cup, 2003 Durand Cup and 2003 IFA Shield.

The 2009–10 Indian Federation Cup Final was the 32nd final of the Indian Federation Cup, the top knock-out competition in India, and was contested between Kolkata giants East Bengal and Shillong Lajong on 3 January 2010.

The 2007 Indian Federation Cup Final was the 29th final of the Indian Federation Cup, the top knock-out competition in India and was contested between Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mahindra United on 15 September 2007.

The 1996 Indian Federation Cup Final was the 19th final of the Indian Federation Cup, the top knock-out competition in India, and was contested between Kolkata giant East Bengal and Dempo of Goa on 11 August 1996.

The 2007–08 season was East Bengal's 1st season in the I-League and 88th season in existence.

The 2004 Durand Cup Final was the 117th final of the Durand Cup, the oldest football competition in India, and was contested between Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan on 10 November 2004 at the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi.

The 1975 IFA Shield Final was the 79th final of the IFA Shield, the second oldest football competition in India, and was contested between Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan on 30 September 1975 at the Mohun Bagan Ground in Kolkata.
