Bucharest is the capital and largest city of Romania. It is described as the cultural, financial, entertainment, and media center in the country with a significant influence in Eastern and Southeastern Europe as well. In geopolitical regards, Bucharest has been and still is an important capital of a state situated in Central and Eastern Europe, where noteworthy summits had taken place. It is also a city with a significant influence in terms of education, tourism, research, technology, health care, art, fashion, sports, and politics. Bucharest is a major economic center in Romania, with a diverse and growing economy that includes industries such as IT, finance, and manufacturing. The city has also seen significant investment in infrastructure, with new roads, bridges, and public transportation systems being built to improve connectivity and mobility. It is located in the south-east of Romania, on the banks of the Dâmbovița river, less than 60 km (37.3 mi) north of the Danube River and the border with Bulgaria. It is also one of the most populated cities of the European Union (EU) within city limits and the most populated capital in Southeastern Europe. It was the capital of Wallachia from 1659 to 1859 and the capital of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia from 1859 to 1881.
The Mayor of Bucharest, sometimes known as the General Mayor, is the head of the Bucharest City Hall in Bucharest, Romania, which is responsible for citywide affairs, such as the water system, the transport system and the main boulevards. The title of General Mayor is sometimes used to distinguish the office from that of the mayors that lead each of Bucharest's six administrative sectors, and which are responsible for local area affairs, such as secondary streets, parks, schools and cleaning services. All decisions of the mayor have to be approved by the 55-seat General Council of Bucharest.
Romania elects on a national level a head of state – the president – and a legislature. The president is elected for a five-year term by the people. The Romanian Parliament has two chambers. The Chamber of Deputies has currently 330 members, elected for a four-year term by party-list proportional representation on closed lists. The Senate has currently 136 members, elected for a four-year term by party-list proportional representation on closed lists.

He is married to Ildikó and has two children.
Nicușor Dan is a Romanian activist, mathematician, former member of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania as well as former founder and leader of the Romanian political party Save Romania Union (USR). He is currently serving as the Mayor of Bucharest following the 2020 Romanian local elections.

Ion Ceban is a Moldovan politician, current mayor of Chișinău, the capital of Moldova. Also is a leader of pro-European National Alternative Movement party. Ceban was Vice President of the Moldovan parliament in 2019, and has served as a member of parliament in 3 legislatures. He also served as a leader of the faction in Chișinău Municipal Council from 2015 to 2019. He has held different positions at the governmental level starting from the head of a department to Deputy Minister.

The mayor of Brăila, officially the Mayor of the Municipality of Brăila, is the head of the Brăila City Hall in Brăila, Romania. The current mayor of Brăila is PSD member Viorel Marian Dragomir, who was elected in the 2020 Romanian local elections with over 50% of the votes. This is his second term, as he already was the mayor of the city from 2016 to 2020.
