The 2005 Geelong Football Club season was the club's 106th season in the Australian Football League (AFL). Geelong finished the regular season in sixth position on the ladder. After defeating Melbourne in the Elimination Final they were defeated by Sydney in the Semi-Final at the SCG.

The Geelong Football Club, nicknamed the Cats, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. The club competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition.
Brad Johnson is a former Australian rules footballer who was the captain of Australian Football League team Western Bulldogs. Despite his small size for his position, he was considered to be one of the best forwards in the game because of his overhead marking ability, and he also had the ability to play across half forward or in the midfield.
Gary James Ayres is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is currently the senior coach for the Port Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Ayres' playing career is honored by the existence of the Gary Ayres Award, an annual award given to the player judged best-afield by the AFL Coaches Association throughout each AFL finals series.

He is a triple premiership player, a six-time All-Australian, and three-time captain of the All-Australian team. Selwood has captained Geelong since 2012, is Geelong's games record holder, and has won the Carji Greeves Medal three times as Geelong's best and fairest player.
