The United States Open Tennis Championships is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually at Flushing Meadows, starting on the last Monday in August and lasting for two weeks. The tournament consists of five main championship events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, with additional tournaments for seniors, juniors, and wheelchair players.

In 2006, the boys' singles event was won by Dušan Lojda of the Czech Republic who beat Peter Polansky of Canada, 7–6(4), 6–3 in the final.

The United States' Serena Williams defeated Russia's Maria Sharapova in the final, 6–0, 6–1 to win the gold medal in women's singles tennis at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Both finalists were attempting to become the second woman to complete the career Golden Slam in singles. Williams won the gold, only weeks after winning the 2012 Wimbledon Championships, without losing a set, without losing more than three games in any set, and without losing more than five games in any match. Her serve was broken only once during the tournament. She also became the first tennis player to complete the career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles. It was the United States' first victory in the event since Serena's sister Venus Williams won in 2000, and its fifth gold overall. In the bronze medal match, Belarus' Victoria Azarenka defeated Russia's Maria Kirilenko, 6–3, 6–4.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer in the final, 7–6(7–5), 1–6, 7–6(7–4), 4–6, 13–12(7–3) to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships. At four hours and 57 minutes in length, it was the longest singles final in Wimbledon history. It was Djokovic's fifth Wimbledon title and 16th major title overall. Djokovic became the first man since Bob Falkenburg in 1948 to win the title after being championship points down, having saved two when down 7–8 in the fifth set. This was the first time since the 2004 French Open that a man saved championship points in order to win a major. Djokovic became the second man and third singles player overall to win multiple Grand Slam titles after saving match point during the tournament, after Rod Laver and Serena Williams. Conversely, this was the third time that an opponent of Federer saved match points and went on to win the major, following Marat Safin in the 2005 Australian Open and Djokovic in the 2011 US Open.

Nell Hall and Harry Hopman were the defending champions and the second seeds, but they lost in the semifinals.

Aslan Karatsev defeated Andy Murray in the final, 6–3, 6–3 to win the men's singles title at the 2022 Sydney Tennis Classic. This was Murray's first ATP final since he won the 2019 European Open.
