Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova in the final, 6–1, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2007 Australian Open. It was her third Australian Open singles title and her eighth major singles title overall. Ranked as the world No. 81, she became the first unseeded player to win the title since Christine O'Neil in 1978.
Serena Williams defeated Justine Henin in the final, 0–6, 7–5, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2007 Miami Open. She saved two championship points en route to the title, being down in the final 0-6, 4-5 15-40.

She did not lose a set during the tournament, and became the second woman to achieve the Sunshine Double. At the time, Clijsters was the lowest-ranked player to win the title, doing so as the world No. 38.

Zhang played alongside Yaroslava Shvedova, but lost in the first round to Tímea Babos and Olga Govortsova. First seeded Hsieh Su-wei and Peng Shuai won the title, defeating in the final 3rd seeded Vania King and Galina Voskoboeva with the score 6–3, 4–6, [12–10].
Flavia Pennetta defeated Agnieszka Radwańska in the final, 6–2, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2014 Indian Wells Masters.
Petra Kvitová defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final, 6–1, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2015 Madrid Open. It was her second Madrid Open title.

Victoria Azarenka defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2016 Miami Open. She became the first woman since Kim Clijsters in 2005 to win Indian Wells and Miami back to back, and became only the third woman in history, after Steffi Graf and Clijsters, to complete the 'Sunshine Double' in singles.
