The 2006 edition of the J.League Cup, officially the 2006 J.League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup was sponsored by Nabisco. First-round matches were held from March 29 through May 21. Gamba Osaka were exempt from competing in the group stage, due to their entry into the Asian Champions League. They were therefore entered into the quarter-final stage.

2005 Urawa Red Diamonds season

The 2012 Montedio Yamagata season sees Montedio Yamagata return to J.League Division 2 after being relegated in the 2011 J.League Division 1. This will be their 16th season overall in the second tier. Montedio Yamagata are also competing in the 2012 Emperor's Cup.

The 2012 Tochigi SC season sees Tochigi SC compete in J.League Division 2 for the fourth consecutive season. Tochigi SC are also competing in the 2012 Emperor's Cup.

The 2012 Yokohama FC season sees Yokohama FC compete in J.League Division 2 for the fifth consecutive season. Yokohama FC are also competing in the 2012 Emperor's Cup.

The 2012 Tokyo Verdy season sees Tokyo Verdy compete in J.League Division 2 for the fourth consecutive season and 12th second-tier season overall since 1972. Tokyo Verdy are also competing in the 2012 Emperor's Cup.
