The 2008 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship was held from May 21–24 at Campbell's Field in Camden, NJ. It featured the top six regular-season finishers of the conference's 14 teams. Second-seeded Charlotte defeated Xavier in the title game to win the tournament for the second straight year, earning the A-10's automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Tournament. [1]

Seeding and format

The league's top six teams, based on winning percentage in the 27-game regular-season schedule, were seeded one through six. The top two seeds, Xavier and Charlotte, received byes into the second round of play in the double elimination tournament. [1]

In the tie for first place, the conference's tiebreaking procedures gave Xavier the top seed.

Loren Hibbs American baseball player and coach

Loren Hibbs is an American baseball player and coach. He is currently the Assistant Athletics Director for Baseball Operations and Player Development for Wichita State. He previously has served as the head baseball coach at Charlotte.

The Duquesne Dukes represent Duquesne University in college basketball. The team, which started in 1914, has only ever played in NCAA Division I and has had five appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The George Washington Colonials men's basketball team represents George Washington University in the United States' capital, Washington, D.C. It plays its home games in the Charles E. Smith Center, which is also shared with other George Washington Colonials athletic programs. The school's team currently competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The head coach is Chris Caputo.

The 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Tournament was played at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey from March 12 to March 15, 2008. By winning the tournament, Temple received an automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament and was crowned Atlantic 10 Conference champion. Xavier and Saint Joseph's also received at-large bids to the NCAA tournament. Dionte Christmas of Temple was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

The Charlotte 49ers men's basketball team represents the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in NCAA Division I basketball. The 49ers are charter members of Conference USA. Charlotte returned to C-USA in 2013 after leaving in 2005 to join the Atlantic 10 Conference. The 49ers have also played in the Sun Belt Conference and were a member of the Metro Conference, which merged with the Great Midwest Conference to form Conference USA.

Lavoy Allen American professional basketball player

Lavoy Allen is an American former professional basketball player. He was selected in the second round, 50th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. Allen is the son of a truck driver, and did not play much basketball until eighth grade. He attended Pennsbury High School, where he was coached by Frank Sciolla. Rivals.com ranked him the 14th best center in his class, and Scout.com named him the 110th overall prospect. Allen committed to Temple University and coach Fran Dunphy.

Dayton Flyers

The Dayton Flyers are the intercollegiate athletic teams of the University of Dayton of Dayton, Ohio. All Flyers intercollegiate sports teams participate at the NCAA Division I level. The football team competes in the Division I FCS non-scholarship Pioneer Football League, and women's golf plays in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while all other sports compete in the non-football Atlantic 10 Conference.

The Charlotte 49ers men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. As of the upcoming 2022 season, the team is a member of the NCAA Division I American Athletic Conference. The team plays their home games at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2011, the team reached the championship of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, for the first time in program history.

The 2013 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Tournament was the postseason baseball tournament of the NCAA Division I Atlantic 10 Conference. It took place from May 22–25. The top seven regular season finishers of the league's fifteen teams met in the double-elimination tournament to be held at newly renovated Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the championship game, first-seeded Saint Louis defeated second-seeded Charlotte, 7-4, to win its third tournament championship. Saint Louis earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. As a team, SLU collected 92 hits in six days, shattering the previous A-10 Tournament record of 65.

Scott Googins is an American college baseball coach who is the head coach of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats Baseball Team. Googins was hired on June 6, 2017. He left Xavier after being the skipper of the Musketeers baseball team since the start of the 2006 season. Under Googins, Xavier appeared in three NCAA Tournaments. In 2008, he was named the A-10 Coach of the Year, and in 2009, he was named the ABCA Mideast Region Coach of the Year. Googins is an alumnus of Ohio Wesleyan University, where he played baseball for the Battling Bishops.

Fifth-seeded Saint Louis defeated St. Bonaventure in the title game to win the tournament for the first time, earning the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA Tournament.

The 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship was held from May 25–28 at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, OH. It featured the top two regular-season finishers of each six-team division, plus the next two best finishers. Top-seeded Rhode Island defeated George Washington in the title game to win the tournament for the first time, earning the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

The 2003 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship was held at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT from May 15–17 (preliminaries) and at Pitt Field in Richmond, VA on May 22 and 24. It featured the top two regular-season finishers of each six-team division, plus the next two best finishers. Top-seeded Richmond defeated Massachusetts in the title game to win the tournament for the first time, earning the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the 2003 NCAA Tournament.

The 2001 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship was held at Cracker Jack Stadium in Kissimmee, Florida from May 17–19. It featured the top four regular-season finishers of the conference's 11 teams. 2001 was the final season that the tournament had four teams; in 2002, it moved to a six-team format. Third-seeded Richmond defeated George Washington in the title game to win the tournament for the third time, earning the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the 2001 NCAA Tournament.

The 1999 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship was held at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, Pennsylvania from May 20–22. It was the 12th time was held in Boyertown, where it was previously held from 1987 to 1997. It featured the top two regular-season finishers of each of the conference's six-team divisions. West Division top seed Virginia Tech defeated La Salle in the title game to win the tournament for the second time, earning the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the 1999 NCAA Tournament.
