The 2009 African Junior Badminton Championships were the continental badminton championships to crown the best youth players and teams across Africa. The tournament was held at the Arat Kilo Hall in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 2 to 9 August 2009. [1]
The 2009 African Junior Badminton Championships were held in two separate events. The mixed team event, officially All Africa U-19 Mixed Team Championships 2009, was a continental tournament to crown the best team in Africa. A total of 9 countries across Africa registered their players to compete at mixed team event. [2] [3] [4]
The individual event, officially All Africa U-19 Individual Championships 2009, was a continental tournament to crown the best players in Africa holding from 15 to 17 December. [5] [6]
This tournament was held at the Arat Kilo Hall in Addis Ababa with three courts. [7]

The African Badminton Championships is a tournament organized by the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) to crown the best badminton players in Africa. For the team event there is the African Badminton Cup of Nations. This is not to be confused with the All African Games, the multi sports event, held every four years where badminton is included since 2003.
Football is the most popular sport in Ethiopia. Although not one of the leading footballing nations in Africa, Ethiopia has produced some outstanding teams at both club and international level as well as some talented individual players.
Victoria "Vicky" Na is an Australian badminton player. She is of Indonesian and Thai descent. She has won an Australian age national championship and participated in several international badminton competitions. Na made her Australian national badminton team debut in 2011 and was a member of the Australian 2012 Summer Olympics badminton team.
The 2013 Asian Junior Badminton Championships is an Asia continental junior championships to crown the best U-19 badminton players across Asia. It was held in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from 7–14 July 2013.
Arada is a district (sub-city) of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Arada got its name from the Oromo "Ardaa Gabaa," meaning "Market Venue." "Ardaa" is a term the Oromo commonly use for places where folks from different directions gather. Initially, they also called it "Birbirsa Gooroo". Over time, the name evolved to signify an urban and modern life style. As of 2011 Arada's population was of 226,000. Arada is one of 10 districts of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Arada is a center of culture and education, with a great number of schools, cultural establishments and annual cultural events. Arada is one of the oldest parts of Addis Ababa and early history is most apparent. Its narrow, sloping streets are dotted with beautiful old one- and two-storey buildings variously adorned with verandas, pillars, bay windows and other decorations in accordance with Indian, Middle-Eastern and European styles. Despite that, there are newer areas. The district's heart is Piazza, a bustling commercial area centered on De Gaulle Square; the imposing city hall, the seat of the city government, built in 1965, and the octagonal neoclassical St Georges Cathedral, built to commemorate Emperor Menelik's defeat of the Italians in the battle of Adwa in 1896 and named after Ethiopia's patron saint Its bustling streets are dotted with stores and boutiques offering European clothing, jewelry, and a variety of other things at relatively greater rates than in other sections of the city.
The 2015 African Junior Athletics Championships was the twelfth edition of the biennial, continental athletics tournament for African athletes aged 19 years or younger. It was held at the Addis Ababa Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 5–8 March. It was the first time that Ethiopia hosted the event and followed on from the 2008 African Championships in Athletics, which was hosted at the same venue.
Enrico James is a South African badminton player. In 2011, he won the bronze medal at the All-Africa Games in the mixed doubles event partnered with Stacey Doubell. In 2012, he won the bronze and silver medal in the men's and mixed doubles respectively at the African Championships in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Svetlana Zilberman is an Israeli badminton player and coach. In 1986, she won a bronze medal at the European Badminton Championships in the women's singles event. She also serves as coach of her son Olympic badminton player Misha Zilberman, and as coach of Israel's national badminton team

The Arat Kilo Monument is a historic monument located in Adwa St, Arat Kilo, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The monument was built by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1930 during his coronation but removed during the Italian administration in 1936, and was restored in 1949 with decorations. The monument depicts the Ethiopian Lion of Judah at the top.
