2009 British Rally Championship

The 2009 MSA British Rally Championship season was the 51st season of the British Rally Championship. The season consisted of six rounds and began on 28 March with International Rally North Wales. The season ended on 26 September, at the International Rally Yorkshire. Irishman Keith Cronin won the title at his first attempt after a season-long battle with Mark Higgins.

Calendar

The calendar still has six rounds in 2009. Last years season climax, Wales Rally GB is no longer a round of the BRC and is replaced with a new season opener, the Bulldog International Rally North Wales.

Keith Cronin is an Irish rally driver and 29-time winner of the British Rally Championship. He won the 2009 British Rally Championship in his first year in the series, defeating multiple champion Mark Higgins in his privately entered TTec Rally Prep Cronin Motorsport Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX. Cronin successfully defended his title in 2010 driving a Subaru Impreza. After missing the 2011 season, he returned to the Championship in 2012. He won three out of six events in his Citroen DS3 R3, meaning he won the overall title for the third time in his career. 2017 saw him crowned British Rally Champion for the fourth time.

The 2010 Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship was the 52nd season of the British Rally Championship. The season consisted of six rounds and began on 27 March, with International Rally North Wales. The season ended on 25 September at the International Rally Yorkshire. Dulux Trade was the title sponsor of the series, which is part of a two-year deal agreed in February 2010.

Craig Breen was an Irish rally driver who last competed part time for the Hyundai team in the World Rally Championship (WRC). He won the 2012 Super 2000 WRC, scoring class wins in the Monte Carlo Rally, Wales Rally GB, Rally France and the Rally of Spain. Breen won the WRC Academy Cup in 2011, winning his first event at the 2011 Rallye Deutschland and sealing the championship with a win at Wales Rally GB. The Academy title going down to the last stage, with Breen and Estonian rally driver Egon Kaur ending the season, both on 111 points, Breen then won the title on count back of stage wins, 39 to 14. David Bogie is a British rally driver from Dumfries. He has held the title of Scottish Rally Champion for a record breaking six years from 2009 until 2013 and 2022. At the end of season 2011, he was both Scottish and British Rally Champion, the first person ever to hold both titles simultaneously.

The 1998 Mobil 1 British Rally Championship was won by Manxman Martin Rowe in the Renault Megane Maxi Kit Car ahead of veteran Welsh driver Gwyndaf Evans in the SEAT Ibiza Kit Car and Alister McRae in The Volkswagen Golf Kit Car.
