Watkins Glen International, nicknamed "The Glen", is an automobile race track in the northeastern United States, located in Dix, New York, just southwest of the village of Watkins Glen, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It is long known around the world as the former home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for twenty consecutive years (1961–1980). In addition, the site has also been home to road racing of nearly every class, including the World Sportscar Championship, Trans-Am, Can-Am, NASCAR Cup Series, the International Motor Sports Association, and the IndyCar Series. The facility is currently owned by NASCAR.

Scott Donald Pruett is an American retired racing driver who has competed in numerous disciplines of the sport. In the 1980s, Pruett established himself as a top sports car racer, winning two IMSA GTO, and three Trans-Am championships. Later in his career, he won five Grand-Am championships. In the 1990s, Pruett competed in CART Championship cars. After a brief stint in NASCAR, he returned to sports cars.

The 15-race championship for Daytona Prototypes and GT cars began January 27, 2007 and concluded on September 15, 2007. Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty shared the Daytona Prototype title, while Dirk Werner won the GT title.
Colin James Braun is an American racing driver. He is the 2014 and 2015 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Prototype Challenge Champion and currently drives the No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06 for Meyer Shank Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The Crown Royal 200 at the Glen was a Rolex Sports Car Series race held at Watkins Glen International. The race was first run in 1984 by the IMSA GT Championship. The "New York 500" initially was a second Watkins Glen round running for a shorter 500-kilometre (310 mi) distance compared to the Continental, using both classes of competitors. However, in 1986, the race was split into two events, the prototypes retaining the 500 km event, and GT cars given a shorter 300 km (190 mi) race. In 1987 prototypes were dropped entirely, and the race served as a 500 km GT event until 1991. Grand-Am revived the race in 2001, running the event on the same weekend as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series series' Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen, and using Watkins Glen's short course.

The 2018 Go Bowling at The Glen was a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race held on August 5, 2018 at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York. Contested over 90 laps on the 2.45-mile (3.94 km) road course, it was the 22nd race of the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. Chase Elliott scored his first career win in this race after holding off a hard-charging Martin Truex Jr. who was the defending winner from last year. This was the final race for Brian France as the CEO of NASCAR, as he was arrested for DUI hours after the race occurred. Jim France was the CEO starting at Michigan.

At race's end, Joey Logano of Team Penske would dominate the race to win his 30th career NASCAR Xfinity Series win and his second and final win of the season. To fill out the podium, A. J. Allmendinger of GMS Racing and Justin Allgaier of JR Motorsports would finish second and third, respectively.

The race was held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, in Watkins Glen, New York at Watkins Glen International, a 2.454 miles (3.949 km) permanent road course. The race took the scheduled 82 laps to complete. After Ty Gibbs and William Byron spun for the lead with 5 laps to go, Kyle Larson, driving for JR Motorsports, took over the lead and held off A. J. Allmendinger for his 13th career NASCAR Xfinity Series win, and his first of the season. Byron and Gibbs had dominated the race, leading 35 and 25 laps. To fill out the podium, Sammy Smith, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, would finish 3rd, respectively.
