The 2009 India Open Grand Prix also known as Jaypee Cup Syed Modi Memorial India Grand Prix was a badminton tournament which took place at Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow, India from 15 to 20 December 2009. [1] It is the first time this tournament was ranked as BWF Grand Prix event with a total purse of $50,000. [2] It was the last tournament of the 2009 BWF Grand Prix Gold and Grand Prix.

Shruti Kurien is an Indian badminton player. She along with partner Jwala Gutta won the National women's doubles championship in 2000 and 2002–2008. She was the gold medalists at the 2004, 2006 and 2010 South Asian Games in the women's doubles and team events, also won mixed team bronze at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Kurien won the women's doubles Grand Prix title at 2008 Bulgaria Open. She was formerly married to Nikhil Kanetkar, another National badminton champion from Maharashtra, although the two are now divorced.
Jwala Gutta Vishal is an Indian professional badminton player. Beginning in the late 1990s, she represented India at international events in both mixed and women's doubles. She has a total of 316 match wins in both the disciplines—the most by any Indian—and peaked at no. 6 in the world rankings. Gutta has won medals at numerous tournaments on the BWF circuit including a silver at the 2009 Superseries Masters Finals and a bronze at the 2011 World Championships.

This is for the first time this tournament was graded as a Grand Prix Gold event, where before rate as Grand Prix event. This tournament was part of the qualification stage of 2012 Summer Olympics.
