Aparna Balan (born 9 August 1986) is an Indian badminton player from Kozhikode, Kerala. [1] She was part of the national team that won the silver medal in 2010 Commonwealth Games, also gold medals in 2004, 2006 and 2010 South Asian Games. She is 6 times National Champion in mixed doubles and 3 times National Champion in women's doubles. She represented India in many international badminton tournaments.

Career

In 2006, she won the national mixed doubles title partnering with V. Diju. [2] At the same year, she competed at the 2006 South Asian Games and won two silver medals in the women's and mixed doubles event. [3] In 2010 South Asian Games, Balan won the women's doubles gold with Shruti Kurien and mixed doubles silver with Sanave Thomas. [4]

Personal life

On 09 April 2018, she married Sandeep M S. [5] The couple has a son, Sriyaan Sandeep Maliyekkal.

BWF Grand Prix

The BWF Grand Prix had two levels, the BWF Grand Prix and Grand Prix Gold. It was a series of badminton tournaments sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) which was held from 2007 to 2017.

Shruti Kurien is an Indian badminton player. She along with partner Jwala Gutta won the National women's doubles championship in 2000 and 2002–2008. Kurien won the women's doubles Grand Prix title at 2008 Bulgaria Open. Valiyaveetil Diju, also known as V. Diju, is an Indian badminton player from Kozhikode, Kerala. He clinched six National Championships title, once in the men's doubles and five times in the mixed doubles. He represented India in the 2012 London Olympics, became the first Indian player to participate at the Olympics in the mixed doubles alongside Jwala Gutta. He is the winner of Arjuna Award 2014, given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, government of India to recognize his outstanding achievement in National sports. He is also the winner of G. V. Raja awards, which is the highest government-level recognition for sports persons in Kerala. He is winner of Jimmy George award 2014. He is also winner of Vivekanandha sports excellence award 2014. He won the Youth excellence award also in 2014.He is the only mixed doubles player from India to reach top 10 in the world badminton ranking(BWF) .His highest ranking is number 6th in world ranking.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ashwini Ponnappa</span> Indian badminton player

Ashwini Ponnappa Machimanda is an Indian badminton player who represents the country at the international badminton circuit in both the women's and mixed doubles disciplines. She had a successful partnership with Jwala Gutta as the pair has won many medals in international events including a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and bronze medals at the Uber Cup and the Asian Badminton Championships. They were consistently ranked among the top 20 in the BWF World Ranking reaching as high as no. 10. Ponnappa and Gutta also won the bronze medal at the BWF World Championships in 2011, becoming the first Indian pair and women and only the second overall to win a medal at the World Championships.

Rupesh Kumar K. T. is an Indian badminton player from Kerala, born in Sirpur, Telangana. He is one of India's finest-ever doubles player, with nine successive national titles. He won the silver medal in mixed team event in 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi, and a bronze medal in 2006 Melbourne. He, along with his doubles partner Sanave Thomas, won the BWF Grand Prix title at the 2009 New Zealand Open and 2010 Bitburger Open. He was three times men's doubles gold medalists at the South Asian Games, in 2004 partnered with Markose Bristow, and in 2006 and 2010 with Thomas.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Zhao Yunlei</span> Badminton player

Zhao Yunlei is a mixed and women's doubles badminton player from China. She graduated with a BA from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. She is the first and only badminton player to have ever won two gold medals in the same Olympic edition, winning in both the mixed and women's doubles categories in 2012. Zhao joins the ranks with nine other players with two Olympic gold medals, the highest number of gold medals won by any badminton player. Through her performance at the 2014 and 2015 BWF World Championships, she became the first player to win two consecutive gold medals in two consecutive BWF World Championships.

Arun Vishnu is a former Indian badminton player, from Calicut, Kerala, who represented India in several international tournaments. He is partnered with Aparna Balan and Alwin Francis in mixed doubles category and men's doubles category respectively. His career best world ranking is 37 and 41 in men's doubles and mixed doubles category respectively. Since 2016 he is coach of Indian National Badminton Team.

Pranaav Jerry Chopra is an Indian badminton player. He joined the India national badminton team in 2007. In the year 2018, at the Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Queensland, he won the gold medal in mixed team as being a member of the Indian mixed team. He is only the second player from India to reach Top 15 in the World Rankings in Mixed Doubles with his partner.

Chen Qingchen is a Chinese badminton player. She started her achievements under her coach Li Yongbo, with partner in the women's doubles Jia Yifan, and in the mixed doubles Zheng Siwei. She ended the 2016 BWF Season by winning the BWF Most Promising Player of the Year, also completed her success by winning titles at the 2016 BWF Superseries Finals in the women's and mixed doubles categories respectively. Setyana Daniella Florensia Mapasa is an Australian badminton player. Mapasa won a silver medal at the 2013 BWF World Junior Championships mixed team when she represented Indonesia. She officially became an Australian citizen in 2014. She was selected to join the national team compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. She was four times women's doubles Oceania champions from 2017 to 2020 with her partner Gronya Somerville, also two times champion in the mixed doubles event in 2017 and 2018 alongside Sawan Serasinghe.

Sanave Thomas Arattukulam is an Indian badminton player. He won bronze medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in mixed team event. He was the gold medalists at the 2006 and 2010 South Asian Games in the men's doubles and team events, also won silver medal in the mixed doubles in 2010.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Du Yue</span> Chinese badminton player

Du Yue is a Chinese badminton player. She won the silver medal at the 2014 Asian Junior Championships in the girls' doubles event partnered with Li Yinhui. She and Li then made it to the gold medal 2015. Du also claimed the girls' doubles gold in 2016 partnered with Xu Ya and doubled-up the title winning mixed doubles gold with He Jiting. She and He Jiting captured the gold medal at the 2016 World Junior Championships, which in the previous year they won the silver medal. She won her first senior international title at the 2017 China International Challenge tournament in the women's doubles event partnered with Xu Ya. Du was the mixed doubles silver medalist at the 2019 Asian Championships, and the women's doubles bronze medalist at the 2019 World Championships.

Lu Lu is a retired Chinese female badminton player. In 2008, she won gold medal in the mixed team event at the World Junior Championships. In the individual event, she won mixed doubles silver and girls' doubles bronze. She also competed at the Asian Junior Championships, and won the girls' doubles silver medal, and gold medals in the mixed team and doubles event. Partnered with Zhang Nan, Lu became the champion at the 2009 Philippines Open. In 2010, she became the women's doubles runner-up at the China Masters Super Series tournament with Bao Yixin.
