Parliamentary elections were held in Transnistria on 12 December 2010. All 43 seats of the Supreme Council of Transnistria were up for election. Transnistria uses first past the post with 43 single seat constituencies.
In preparation for the election, boundaries of the electoral constituencies were reviewed and revised in September 2010. [1]
The Supreme Council passed a resolution on 27 October to invite international observers to monitor the election. MPs invited the members of the Federation Council, the State Duma, Russia's Electoral Commission, the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, the Parliament of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, North Ossetia-Alania, Artsakh, as well as the European Parliament, the OSCE and the Council of Europe. Observers present included representatives from Abkhazia, [3] Artsakh, [4] Germany and Poland. [5]
According to official data, 22 of the 43 members of its parliament (MPs) were born on the territory of PMR, while 4 were born in Moldova, 7 were born in Russia, 6 in Ukraine and 4 did not declare. [6]
According to the results, overall turnout was 43%, with Constituency #11 (located in Rîbnița District) reporting 70.1%, the highest in the country. In this district, Sheriff founder Ilya Kazmaly swept the vote, being re-elected with 97.85% (also the highest in the country). The lowest turnout was in Constituency #2 (Bendery), with 29.3%. [7]
Results for 42 constituencies were announced on 13 December, with one recount going on, in Constituency #27 (in Slobozia District). [8] The election here was won by Oleg Vasilaty, who took 35.84% of the vote, only slightly more than the number of votes "against all", which was the highest in the country at 31.5%.
According to the provisional results, Renewal has won the election, taking 25 out of 43 seats in parliament. Yevgeny Shevchuk, Mikhail Burla and Anatoliy Kaminski, leaders of Renewal, were among those (re-)elected. [9]
The Transnistrian Communist Party got its first seat in parliament after its leader Oleg Khorzhan was elected in Constituency #40 (Tiraspol), defeating Renewal deputy leader Olga Gukalenko. [10]

The Supreme Council held its first session in the new composition on 29 December 2010. In this session, Anatoly Kaminski was re-elected as speaker. [11] [12]
Transnistria, officially known as the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), is a breakaway state internationally recognized as part of Moldova. Transnistria controls most of the narrow strip of land between the Dniester river and the Moldova–Ukraine border, as well as some land on the other side of the river's bank. Its capital and largest city is Tiraspol. Transnistria is officially designated by the Republic of Moldova as the Administrative-Territorial Units of the Left Bank of the Dniester or as Stînga Nistrului.
Igor Nikolaevich Smirnov is a Russian-born Transnistrian politician who served as the first president (1991–2011) of the internationally unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic.
Transnistria is a region in Eastern Europe that is under the effective control of the Russian-backed Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic but is recognized by the international community as an administrative unit of Moldova, the Administrative-Territorial Units of the Left Bank of the Dniester. The flag of the Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic is a red-green-red triband, while the Administrative-Territorial Units of the Left Bank of the Dniester use the flag of Moldova.
Sheriff is the second-largest company in the unrecognised breakaway state Transnistria, behind Moldova Steel Works. Based in the city of Tiraspol, it was formed in the early 1990s by Viktor Gushan and Ilya Kazmaly, former members of the KGB. Sheriff has grown to include nearly all forms of profitable private business in the unrecognised country, and has even become significantly involved in local politics and sport, with some commentators saying that company loyalists hold most main government positions in the territory. Anatoly Dirun, director of the Tiraspol School of Political Studies, stated that "Viktor Gushan is the person with the most influence here, both in politics and economics."
The Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic is the parliament of Transnistria. The unicameral legislature consists of 33 seats, all of which are determined by single mandate constituencies. It is headed by a chairman.
Yevgeny Vasilyevich Shevchuk is a Transnistrian former politician who served as the second President of Transnistria, from 2011 to 2016.
The current Constitution of Transnistria was approved by national referendum on 24 December 1995, and signed into law by the President of Transnistria on 17 January 1996. As part of the territory's move towards market based reforms, it was modified on 30 June 2000.
Presidential elections were held in Transnistria on 11 December 2011. As no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the first round, a run-off was held on 25 December.
Nina Viktorovna Shtanski is a Transnistrian former state politician and public figure. She has been the Deputy Prime Minister for the International Cooperation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic from 24 January 2012 to 2 September 2015. Ph.D. (2012). She became an honoured foreign service officer of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in 2012. She held the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
Parliamentary elections were held in Transnistria on 29 November 2015, alongside municipal elections.
Vadim Nikolayevich Krasnoselsky is a Transnistrian politician who is the 3rd and current President of Transnistria. Previously, he served as a member of the Supreme Council of Transnistria from the 7th district, as 6th Speaker of the Supreme Council (2015–2016) and the 7th Minister of the Interior.
The Ministry of Defense of Transnistria is a government agency of the partially recognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. It is the executive body in implementing defense policies in of the Armed Forces of Transnistria. The current Minister of Defense is Major General Oleg Obruchkov.
The Republic Day of Transnistria also known in the West as Independence Day or National Day is the main state holiday in the partially recognized republic of Transnistria. This date is celebrated annually on September 2.
The Tiraspol Suvorov Military School (TrSVU) (Russian: Тираспольское Суворовское военное училище, Romanian: Şcoala militară ”Suvorov”, Ukrainian: Тирасполь Суворовська військова школа) is a military academy and boarding school in the partially recognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic that serves as the military school for young adults in the Armed Forces of Transnistria. It is one of many Suvorov Military Schools located in other former Soviet Republics for military cadets. Currently located on Zelinsky Street in Tiraspol, the incumbent officer-in-charge of the school is Sergei Alexandrov.
The Ministry of Justice of Transnistria (Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika) ensures the law-making activity of the President of the Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika and executive bodies of state power by doing the following:
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Transnistria also known as the Ministry of the Interior is an official government agency of the partially recognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. It is the executive body in implementing defense policies in of the Armed Forces of Transnistria. It is the successor to the Soviet Department of Internal Affairs Pridnestrovian Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (PMSSR) The current Minister of Internal Affairs is Major General Vitaly Neagu.
The COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed to have reached Transnistria in March 2020.
South Ossetia–Transnistria relations Russian: Приднестровско-югоосетинские отношения) is the bilateral relationship between South Ossetia and the Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic (Transnistria). South Ossetia is recognized by five United Nations member states and Transnistria by none. The bilateral relations are mostly symbolic.
Oleg Olegovich Khorzhan was a Transnistrian politician who served as the chairman of the Transnistrian Communist Party and as a member of Transnistria's Supreme Council.
