The United States Open Tennis Championships is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually at Flushing Meadows, starting on the last Monday in August and lasting for two weeks. The tournament consists of five main championship events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, with additional tournaments for seniors, juniors, and wheelchair players.

Simona Halep defeated Jelena Janković in the final, 2–6, 7–5, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2015 Indian Wells Masters.
Victoria Azarenka defeated Serena Williams in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2016 Indian Wells Masters.
Karolína Plíšková defeated Angelique Kerber in the final, 6–3, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2016 Cincinnati Masters. It was her sixth WTA Tour singles title.The two would play each other three weeks later, in the final of the US Open; Kerber would avenge her loss by beating Plíšková in three sets.
Johanna Konta defeated Caroline Wozniacki in the final, 6–4, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2017 Miami Open.
Elina Svitolina defeated Simona Halep in the final, 4–6, 7–5, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2017 Italian Open.
Dominika Cibulková was the defending champion, but lost in the second round to Heather Watson.
Naomi Osaka defeated Serena Williams in the final, 6–2, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2018 US Open. She became the first Japanese player to win a major singles title. She lost only one set during the tournament, to Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round. Following the win, Osaka also made her top 10 rankings debut. Williams was attempting to equal Margaret Court's all-time record of 24 major singles titles, and to set a new Open Era record by winning a seventh US Open singles title.
Naomi Osaka defeated Daria Kasatkina in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2018 Indian Wells Masters. It was her first WTA Tour title. This was the first time two players under 21 had contested the final since Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams in 2001. At 20 years old, Osaka was the youngest Indian Wells Masters champion since Ana Ivanovic in 2008, and the youngest at any Premier Mandatory event since Caroline Wozniacki at the 2010 China Open. She was also only the third unseeded player to win the tournament after Serena Williams (1999) and Clijsters (2005), and the first Japanese player to win a Premier Mandatory title.
