The 2010–11 Alabama–Huntsville Chargers ice hockey team represented the University of Alabama in Huntsville in the 2010–11 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season. The Chargers were coached by Chris Luongo who was in his first season as head coach. His assistant coaches were Mike Warde and Gavin Morgan. The Chargers played their home games in the Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center, competed as an independent and finished with an overall record of 4–26–2.

Preseason

Following the 2009–10 season, the Chargers' conference, College Hockey America, dropped their men's division after Bemidji State, Niagara, and Robert Morris left for other conferences. [1] UAH applied for admission to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, but were denied, [2] forcing the Chargers to play the 2010–11 season as an independent. [3]

Coaching changes

On May 19, 2010, assistant coach John McCabe was named the head coach at Division III Finlandia University, ending a six-year tenure at UAH. [4] On June 21, 2010, head coach Danton Cole was announced as the U.S. National Team Development Program’s Under-17 head coach. [5] Remaining assistant coach Chris Luongo was named head coach on July 9. [6] Assistant coach Mike Warde was announced on August 20, [7] and Gavin Morgan was announced on August 27. [8]

College Hockey America (CHA) was a college ice hockey conference in the United States. It participated in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. The conference was made up of six women's teams, with three in Pennsylvania; two in New York, and one in Missouri.

Danton Edward Cole is an American former professional hockey player and the former head coach of the Michigan State Spartans men's hockey team. He had guided the USA Hockey Under-18 team to a pair of gold medals and a bronze medal at the IIHF World U18 Championships during his seven seasons at the helm from 2010 to 2017. As a player, he spent seven seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders and Chicago Blackhawks.

Christopher John Luongo is an American ice hockey coach and former ice hockey player. Luongo played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators, and New York Islanders between 1991 and 1996. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1989 to 2004, was spent in various minor leagues, and then several years in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. Internationally Luongo played for the American national team at three World Championships. After retiring from playing, Luongo turned to coaching, and has spent several years as an assistant coach at the American collegiate level.

The Alabama–Huntsville Chargers ice hockey were an NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that represented the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The program was discontinued in 2021 due to funding issues and lack of conference membership.

Douglas George Ross was an American college ice hockey player, 1976 USA Olympic hockey player and college ice hockey head coach. Ross is most noted as head coach of the University of Alabama in Huntsville ice hockey team from 1982–2007 where he won two national club championships and two NCAA Division II championships. Ross also coached the club hockey program at Ohio University and oversaw the transition of Kent State University hockey from club status to varsity status in 1980.
