The 2011 KHL Junior Draft was the third entry draft held by the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), taking place on 28 May 2011 in Mytishchi Arena. Ice hockey players from around the world aged between 17 and 21 years of age were selected. Players eligible to take part in the draft were required to not have an active contract with a KHL, MHL or VHL team. A total of 371 players participated in the draft, 171 of these playing in Russia, 100 in Europe and 100 in North America. [1]

The Kontinental Hockey League All-Star Game is an exhibition ice hockey game that marks the midway point of the Kontinental Hockey League's regular season, with many of the league's star players playing against each other. The potential of including additional franchises to the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) has been an ongoing topic since the league's inception. In June 2012, the league presented a plan that would see expansion to as many as 64 teams in up to 22 countries. It has later been stated that the league only can comprise 32 teams, because of problems with logistics with more teams.

Hockey Club Barys, also referred to as Barys Astana or HC Barys, is a professional ice hockey team based in Astana, Kazakhstan. It is one of the founding members of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). They play in the league's Chernyshev Division of the Eastern Conference. Their home arena is the Barys Arena, where they have played since the 2015–16 KHL season. Prior to 2015, the team played home games at the Kazakhstan Sports Palace for 14 seasons, beginning in 2001. HC Budivelnyk was a potential professional ice hockey team based in Kyiv, Ukraine. It planned to join the Kontinental Hockey League for the 2010-11 season. However, on June 24, 2010, the team's management announced the postponement of the team's debut in the KHL. If it had joined the KHL, it would have been the first Ukrainian hockey team to compete at the elite level of European hockey since 1996, when the Russian Superleague was formed. The team was owned and operated by the same group as the Kyiv-based basketball club, BC Budivelnyk.

A total of 998 players participated in the draft, 778 of these playing in Russia, 110 in Europe and 110 in North America.

Nikita Yurevich Mikhailis is a Kazakhstani professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing for Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Mikhailis began playing professionally at the age of 16 with the Nomad Astana of the Kazakhstan Hockey Championship. He played one season with Nomad, during which time he was selected 121st overall by the Barys in the 2012 KHL Junior Draft. In 2012, he began playing major junior hockey with the Barys' junior league affiliate Snezhnye Barsy of the Junior Hockey League (MHL) for three seasons. In 2014–15, he began playing for Barys and register 4 points in the regular season.

HC Kunlun Red Star is a Chinese professional ice hockey club that joined the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) prior to the 2016–17 season.

The 2016 Kontinental Hockey League All-Star Game took place on January 23, 2016 at the VTB Ice Palace in Moscow, Russia, home of Dynamo Moskva, during the 2015–16 KHL season. Before the game, the players competed in the KHL skills competition.
