Futsal is an association football-based game played on a hard court smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football and indoor soccer.
The 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup was the sixth edition of the FIFA Futsal World Cup, the quadrennial international futsal championship contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It was the first tournament to use the term "World Cup". It was held between 30 September and 19 October 2008 in Brazil. It was the only Futsal World Cup to feature 20 teams.

The European Futsal Association or European Union of Futsal (UEFS) was the international sporting association for futsal in Europe. Its name has been directly translated into many languages, and in English has been known as both the European Futsal Association and the European Union of Futsal. It was founded in 1985 in Madrid, then transferred to Moscow. UEFS was affiliated to the Asociación Mundial de Futsal (AMF) until 2017. However, UEFS was disaffiliated and Futsal European Federation was established to replace it.

The 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup was the seventh FIFA Futsal World Cup, the quadrennial international futsal championship contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It took place from 1 to 18 November 2012 in Thailand. An extra four teams were competing at this World Cup. This was the first FIFA men's tournament held in Southeast Asia since the Malaysia 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship, and was the first FIFA men's tournament held in the country, having hosted the 2004 FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship.

The Greece national futsal team is controlled by the Hellenic Football Federation, the governing body for futsal in Greece and represents the country in international futsal competitions, such as the World Cup and the European Championships. The greatest achievement of the Greece national futsal team is the qualification to the second preliminary round of the European Championships of 2014. The coach of the team is Stefanos Soilemes since 2008. The players are chosen from the Greek Futsal Super League, the Futsal Championship of Greece. The last years there is a player, Konstantinos Panou who plays in Spain. As the team is in position number 81 of the Futsal World Ranking has to pass through both the first and the second preliminary round in order to play to a competition like World Cup or Euro.
The UEFA Futsal Euro 2014 was the ninth edition of the European Championship for men's national futsal teams organised by UEFA. It was hosted for the first time in Belgium, from 28 January to 8 February 2014, following a decision of the UEFA Executive Committee in December 2011.

The 2016 Mongolian Futsal League also known as the Pepsi League is the 1st edition of the tournament. There are 12 teams from Khurkhree League and Khurkhree 1st League. The season was started in January 2016.
The 2016–17 Iranian Futsal Super League are the 18th season of the Iran Pro League and the 13th under the name Futsal Super League. Tasisat Daryaei are the defending champions. The season will feature 12 teams from the 2015–16 Iranian Futsal Super League and two new teams promoted from the 2015–16 Iran Futsal's 1st Division: Labaniyat Arjan and Shahrdari.
The 2017 AMF Futsal Women's World Cup, also known as the Mundial AMF Futsal Femenino 2017, was the third edition of the AMF Futsal Women's World Cup. The tournament was held in Balaguer, Catalonia from 19 to 25 November 2017. Twelve national teams from all confederations participated in the tournament including: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Catalonia, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, France, Italy, Paraguay, South Africa, Switzerland and the United States.

The 2018–19 UEFA Futsal Champions League was the 33rd edition of Europe's premier club futsal tournament, and the 18th edition organized by UEFA. It was also the first edition since the tournament was rebranded from "UEFA Futsal Cup" to "UEFA Futsal Champions League". The final tournament took place at the Almaty Arena in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 26–28 April 2019.
