The 2014 St. George Illawarra Dragons season is the 16th in the joint venture club's history. Coached by Steve Price until his mid-season replacement by Paul McGregor, and captained by Ben Creagh, they're competing in the NRL's 2014 Telstra Premiership season. The Dragons had a strong start to the premiership's regular season, being the last team to remain undefeated. Part-way through the season Benji Marshall, after his brief stint in New Zealand rugby union, returned to the NRL with the Dragons, partnering Gareth Widdop in the halves.
The St. George Illawarra Dragons are an Australian professional rugby league football club, representing both the Illawarra and St. George regions of New South Wales. The club has competed in the National Rugby League since 1999 after a joint-venture was formed between the St. George Dragons and the Illawarra Steelers. They officially formed as the game's first joint-venture club on 23 September 1998 and remain the only cross-city team in the NRL. The team has its headquarters and leagues clubs in both Wollongong and the Sydney suburb of Kogarah, and train and play games regularly at WIN Stadium in Wollongong, as well as at Jubilee Oval in Kogarah. From 2006 to 2018 the club was jointly owned by the St. George Dragons 50%, Illawarra Steelers 25% and WIN Corporation 25%. In August 2018 WIN Corporation purchased the Illawarra Steelers remaining 25% stake.
Steven Price is the head coach of the Warrington Wolves in the Super League. He is an Australian professional rugby league football coach and former player. He was the head coach for the St. George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL until May 2014.
Paul "Mary" McGregor is the head coach of the St. George Illawarra Dragons in the National Rugby League and an Australian former professional rugby league footballer. An Australian international and New South Wales State of Origin representative centre, McGregor played his club football for the Illawarra Steelers and then the merged St George Illawarra Dragons at the commencement of their joint venture in 1999. He remained with the club and was appointed interim coach following the sacking of Steve Price part-way through the 2014 NRL season.

Gareth Widdop is an English professional rugby league footballer who is the captain of the St. George Illawarra Dragons in the National Rugby League. Widdop primarily plays as a five-eighth or fullback and is an England international and World All Stars representative. Widdop previously played for the Melbourne Storm between 2010 and 2013, with whom he won the 2012 NRL Premiership. Widdop will play for the Dragons for the 2019 season before joining Warrington Wolves on a 2 year contract from the 2020 season.

Played on Sunday, 30 September at Sydney's ANZ Stadium between the minor premiers Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and the second-placed Melbourne Storm. Anthony Minichiello captained the team in 2014 along with four vice-captains in Boyd Cordner, Jake Friend, Mitchell Pearce and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves. The Sydney Roosters began 2014 by winning the World Club Challenge defeating the Wigan Warriors 36 – 14. The Sydney Roosters completed their 2014 regular season as Minor Premiers for the second year in a row, defeating the South Sydney Rabbitohs 22 – 18. The Sydney Roosters 2014 season ended in defeat against the South Sydney Rabbitohs 32 – 22.
