The 2010–11 Football League is the second division of the Greek professional football system and the first season under the name Football League after previously being known as Beta Ethniki. Its regular season began on 12 September 2010 and ended on 15 May 2011; the promotion play-offs, originally scheduled to take place immediately afterwards, were postponed to late July 2011 in wake of the Koriopolis scandal.
The 2005–06 Gamma Ethniki was the 23rd season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. Asteras Tripolis and Agrotikos Asteras were crowned champions in Southern and Northern Group respectively, thus winning promotion to Beta Ethniki. Ethnikos Piraeus, Messiniakos, PAS Giannina and Panthrakikos also won promotion due to expansion of Beta Ethniki from 16 to 18 teams.
The 2013–14 Gamma Ethniki was the 31st season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. It was scheduled to start on 22 September 2013.
The 2013–14 Gamma Ethniki Cup was the first edition of the Gamma Ethniki Cup, a Greek football Cup competition, wherein only the clubs of the Gamma Ethniki were allowed to participate. The Cup winner competed at the end of the season with the winner of the 2013–14 Amateurs' Cup for the 2014 Amateurs' Super Cup.

The 2015–16 season was Ergotelis' 86th season in existence, 1st season in the Football League since the club's latest relegation from the Super League Greece, and ultimately the last season the club competed at a professional level, after its debut 14 years ago (2002). Ergotelis also participated in the Greek cup, entering the competition in the Second Round, and advancing up to the Round of 16. Unbearable financial issues forced club officials to withdraw the team from professional competitions on 19 January 2016.

The 2016–17 season was AEL Kalloni's first season in the Football League following their relegation from the Super League Greece last season. Along with the Football League, the club also competed in the Greek Cup. The club was expelled from the league on 24 May 2017, due to unpaid debts to its former footballers Kostas Dafkos and Alexandros Chintaseli, and relegated to Gamma Ethniki.

It started on 11 October 2020 but put on hold from the Greek government due to the COVID-19 pandemic on 1 November 2020. It restarted on 11 April 2021, with the group stage being completed after its first round. The champions of each group then qualified for a playoff round, to determine which four teams would be promoted to 2021–22 Super League 2.

It started on 23 October 2021. After the finish of the seven groups, the champion of each group qualified for a playoff round, to determine which four teams will be promoted to 2022–23 Super League 2.
The 2022–23 Gamma Ethniki was the 40th season since the official establishment of the championship in 1983, and the second after the reestablishment as the 3rd tier of the Greek Football. The competition started on 13 November 2022, and was conducted in five groups, in contrast to 2021–22 season, when it was conducted in seven groups. The groups were formed according to geographical criteria. After all games of the five groups are played, the champion of each group qualifies for a playoff round, from which the top four clubs will be promoted to Super League 2.
The 1986–87 Gamma Ethniki was the fourth season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. Chalkida and Edessaikos were crowned champions in Southern and Northern Group respectively, thus winning promotion to Beta Ethniki. Kallithea and Naoussa also won promotion as a runners-up of the groups.

The 2023–24 Gamma Ethniki is the 42st season since the official establishment of the championship in 1982, is the 3rd tier of Greek football after the restructuring of 2021. It has an amateur character, while the Hellenic Football Federation (HFF) is responsible for the conduct of the championship.
