The 2016 BRICS U-17 Football Cup was the first edition of the BRICS U-17 Football Cup. It took place in the Indian state of Goa during the 8th BRICS summit which was also held in India. It began on 5 October and concluded with the final on 15 October. [1] Brazil won the cup defeating South Africa in the final. The tournament featured the under-17 teams of all five members of BRICS with the final taking place at the Fatorda Stadium.[ citation needed ]

All five teams in the tournament shall play each other in a round-robin before the top two teams qualify for the final and the third and fourth place teams play in the third-place match. [2]

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, locally known as Fatorda Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium situated in Margao, Goa, India. The venue has been used to host both international football as well as International cricket matches.However, after the emergence of I-League in 2007 and Indian Super League in 2014, the stadium is turned into football only stadium.
The I-League 2008–2009 season began on 26 September 2008 and finished on 16 April 2009 with a break in December for the Federation Cup and Durand Cup. Most games this season were played on Saturday's and Sunday's to attract larger crowds. After a successful first season for the I League, the second season featured 12 teams from four cities – again this would be expanded in the 2009–10 season to 14 teams.
The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup was the 17th FIFA U-17 World Cup, a biennial international football tournament contested by men's under-17 national teams. Organised by FIFA, the tournament took place in India between 6 and 28 October 2017, after the country was awarded the hosting rights on 5 December 2013. The tournament marked the first time India have hosted a FIFA tournament and the first Asian country to host U-17 World Cup since United Arab Emirates in 2013. The attendance for this World Cup was a record 1,347,133 surpassing China's record in 1985 with 1,230,976.
The Football tournament of the 2014 Lusophony Games took place in Goa, India at the Fatorda Stadium and Tilak Maidan. The tournament was played from 19 to 28 January 2014. There was only men's competition and U20 teams represented their nations.

The 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup was the 7th edition of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, the multinational–international women's youth football championship, contested by the under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA, since its inception in 2008. The tournament was hosted by India, which would have hosted the 2020 edition before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the second time that India have been hosting a FIFA tournament, after the men's 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, and the first time that India hosting a FIFA women's football tournament.
The GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim is the first integrated athletic complex in Goa. It has been constructed according to IAAF specifications and norms and has hosted the athletic events of 2014 Lusofonia Games. The field is covered with natural turf and has been used as the training ground for the FC Goa developmental squad. In 2020, it was chosen as one of the three venues to host for 2020-21 season of Indian Super League.
