The 2016 BYU Cougars women's soccer team represented BYU during the 2016 NCAA Division I women's soccer season. The Cougars were coached for a 22nd consecutive season by Jennifer Rockwood, who was co-coach in 1995 and became the solo head coach in 1996. Before 1995 BYU women's soccer competed as a club team and not as a member of the NCAA. The Cougars entered the 2016 season having won four consecutive West Coast Conference championships [1] and having made the NCAA Tournament each of the last four seasons and in 17 of the 21 seasons that Rockwood has been the head coach. The Cougars came off of a season were they advanced to the second round of the College Cup before being defeated by Stanford to finish the season 16–3–2. [2] The Cougars split the WCC regular season title with Pepperdine and advanced to the third round of the NCAA College Cup before falling to South Carolina 1–0.
Every BYU women's soccer game was shown live on BYUtv, TheW.tv, had a road television broadcast, or had a road internet stream. Information on these television broadcasts can be found under each individual match.
For a third consecutive season the Cougar IMG Sports Network will air BYU Cougars women's soccer games. Greg Wrubell will provide play-by-play for most games with Robbie Bullough being the back-up play-by-play broadcaster. Former men's assistant coach Hugh Van Wagenen (typically home games) and Colette Smith (typically road games) will once again act as analysts. ESPN 960 and BYU Radio will act as the flagship stations for women's soccer.

BYU TV is a television channel and free family-friendly streaming service, founded in 2000, which is owned and operated as a part of Brigham Young University (BYU). The channel, available on most smart TVs or through cable and satellite distributors in the United States, produces a number of original series and documentaries with emphases in comedy, history, lifestyle, music and drama. BYUtv also regularly broadcasts feature films, nature documentaries, acquired dramas and religious programs. Additionally, BYUtv Sports is the primary broadcaster of BYU Cougars athletics, producing more than 125 live sporting events in 2012 alone. The channel has won multiple regional Emmy Awards, a national Children's and Family Emmy Award, and several of its original series have been praised by national television critics.
BYU Radio is a podcast network and former talk radio station run by Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
The 2011–12 BYU Cougars men's basketball team represented Brigham Young University in the 2011–12 college basketball season. This was head coach Dave Rose's seventh season at BYU. The Cougars, in their first season in the West Coast Conference, played their home games at the Marriott Center. They finished the season 26–9, 12–4 in WCC play to finish in third place. They lost in the semifinals of the West Coast Basketball tournament to Gonzaga. They received an at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA tournament where they defeated Iona in the First Four round before falling in the Round of 64 to Marquette.

Before 1995 BYU women's soccer competed as a club team and not as a member of the NCAA. The Cougars entered the 2014 season having won back-to-back West Coast Conference championships and having made the NCAA Tournament each of the last two seasons and in 15 of the 19 seasons that Rockwood has been the head coach. The Cougars would win the WCC title and secure a berth in the College Cup, where they lost to Colorado playing in the snow.

Before 1995 BYU women's soccer competed as a club team and not as a member of the NCAA. The Cougars enter the 2015 season having won three consecutive West Coast Conference championships and having made the NCAA Tournament each of the last three seasons and in 16 of the 20 seasons that Rockwood has been the head coach. The Cougars also come in having been picked to win the 2015 WCC women's soccer crown. On the last day of the season BYU won their fourth consecutive WCC soccer title to automatically qualify for the NCAA Tournament. BYU advanced to the second round of the College Cup where they were defeated by Stanford. BYU finished the season at 16–3–2.

The Cougars, led by first year head coach Shawn Olmstead, play their home games at Smith Fieldhouse. The Cougars were members of the MPSF and were picked to win the MPSF in the preseason poll.

They reached the NCAA National Championship for the second year in a row before being swept by Ohio State. The Cougars finished the year ranked #2 in the nation.

Joining Rockwood as assistant coaches are Brent Anderson and Aleisha Rose with volunteer assistants Rachel Jorgensen and McKinzie Young. The Cougars came off of a season were they advanced to the third round of the College Cup before being defeated by South Carolina to finish the season 18–3–1. The Cougars were picked to finish second by the WCC media. After a slow start the Cougars finished the season with their first losing record since 2004 at 7–8–4 and failed to make the NCAA Playoffs for the first time since 2011. They finished the conference tied for fourth at 4–4–1.

He is a commentator for college sports, including football, men's basketball, baseball, and women's soccer for Brigham Young University's (BYU) Sports Network and was the television voice for Utah Royals FC matches on KMYU their first season. He is also the Director of Broadcast Media at BYU.

They defeated Loyola Marymount in the Second Round of the WCC tournament before losing in the Third Round to San Francisco. They received an at-large bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Long Beach State and Northern Iowa to advance to the quarterfinals where they lost to Washington State.

Overall the Cougars have made the NCAA tournament in 21 of the 26 seasons that Rockwood has been the head coach. Joining Rockwood as assistant coaches are Brent Anderson and Steve Magleby with volunteer assistants Rachel Jorgensen and McKinzie Young. The Cougars come off of a season where they were second in the WCC and went 11–4–1, 7–1–1 in the WCC. Their lone conference loss came to eventual national champion Santa Clara, whom the Cougars beat in Santa Clara in a non-conference match. For the 2021 season BYU returned 10 starters, including defending WCC Offensive Player of the Year Mikayla Colohan, who was drafted by the Orlando Pride. Cameron Tucker, who recorded eight goals and eight assists in 2020–21, also returned. The others returning due to an extra year of eligibility granted due to the COVID-19 pandemic include goalkeeper Cassidy Smith, Grace Johnson and Mikaylie Call. The incoming class features six new athletes and no new transfers. The Cougars went on to share the WCC crown, advance to their first ever College Cup, and tied in the championship with Florida State before losing on penalties to finish as national runner–up.

The Cougars went on to advance to their first ever College Cup, and tied in the championship with Florida State before losing on penalties to finish as national runner–up. The Cougars staff was also named the Women's Staff of the Year. The Cougars enter 2022 having been picked to win the WCC Championship in their final season before heading to the Big 12 Conference for the 2023 season.
