Paolo Lorenzi won the title, defeating Nikoloz Basilashvili in the final, 6–3, 6–4. At the age of 34 years and seven months, Lorenzi became the oldest first-time champion in ATP history. [1]

It was the 72nd edition of the Austrian Open Kitzbühel, and part of the World Tour 250 series of the 2016 ATP World Tour. It took place at the Tennis stadium Kitzbühel in Kitzbühel, Austria, from July 18 through July 24.

Federico Delbonis was the defending champion but retired in the first round against Reda El Amrani.

Fabio Fognini was the defending champion, but lost in the quarterfinals to lucky loser Andrey Rublev.

Alexander Zverev was the defending champion, but chose not to participate this year.
