The 2017 African Amateur Boxing Championships were held in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo from 18 to 25 June 2017. It was the 19th edition of this event (and the first as a unified championships for men and women) organised by the African governing body for amateur boxing, the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC).

The IBA World Boxing Championships, and the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships, are biennial amateur boxing competitions organised by the International Boxing Association (IBA), which is the sport governing body. Alongside the Olympic boxing programme, they are the highest level of competition for the sport. The championships were first held for men in 1974 and the first women's championships were held over 25 years later in 2001.

The European Amateur Boxing Championships is the highest competition for boxing amateurs in Europe, organised by the continent's governing body EUBC, which stands for the European Boxing Confederation. The first edition of the tournament took place in 1924, although the first 'competitive' championships were hosted by the city of Stockholm (Sweden) in 1925.

IBA consists of five continental confederations — AFBC, AMBC, ASBC, EUBC, OCBC. The association includes 203 national boxing federations.

The European Boxing Confederation(EUBC) is the European governing body in amateur boxing. It is a member of the world governing body AIBA. It came into existence on the adoption of its constitution on February 16, 2009, taking over the functions of the former European Amateur Boxing Association (EABA).

Thomas Essomba is a Cameroonian-British professional boxer who held the Commonwealth flyweight title from 2015 to 2017. As an amateur he represented Cameroon at the 2012 Olympics, reaching the round of 16 of the light-flyweight bracket.

Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom is an Indian amateur boxer, politician, and former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. She is the only woman to win the World Amateur Boxing Championship six times, the only female boxer to have won a medal in each one of the first seven World Championships, and the only boxer to win eight World Championship medals. Nicknamed Magnificent Mary, she was the only Indian female boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she competed in the flyweight (51 kg) category and won a bronze medal. She had also been ranked as the world's No. 1 female light-flyweight by the International Boxing Association (amateur) (AIBA). She became the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal in the Asian Games in 2014 at Incheon, South Korea and is the first Indian female boxer to win gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She is also the only boxer to become Asian Amateur Boxing Champion for a record six times. Mary Kom won the 51kg gold in President's Cup in Indonesia.

Merven Clair is a Mauritian boxer. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's middleweight event, in which he was eliminated in the first round by Hosam Bakr Abdin. He also competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the welterweight class where he was also eliminated in the first round, that time by Kenya's Rayton Okwiri. At the 68th edition of the Strandja Memorial in February 2017, he placed third after a defeat in the semifinals to eventual tournament winner Pat McCormack. At the 2017 African Boxing Championships in Brazzaville, Clair secured a silver medal in the 69 kg weight class, suffering his only defeat of the tournament in the final against Muzamiru Kakande from Uganda. He won the gold medal at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco in the welterweight class by defeating the Nigerian boxer Abdulafeez Osoba in the final. At the 2020 African Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament, he was defeated in the quarterfinals by Stephen Zimba by referee stoppage in the second round.

Elnur Abduraimov is an Uzbekistani professional boxer. He won bronze medal at 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships as an amateur.

South African National Boxing Organisation (SANABO) is the organisation that governs boxing for men and women in South Africa. South African National Boxing Organisation is affiliated to the International Boxing Association (AIBA), along with the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC). SANABO is also affiliated to the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), and Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA). It organises national competitions such as the SANABO Elite National Championships and the SANABO Boxing League.

Boxing at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 14 to 18 October at the Oceania Pavilion in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

At the 2019 European Games in Minsk, matches across fifteen weight categories in boxing were contested between 21 and 30 June 2019, of which ten were allocated to men and five were allocated to women.

The 2015 African Amateur Boxing Championships were held at the Mohammed V Athletic Center in Casablanca, Morocco from 18 to 23 August 2015. It was the 18th edition of this event organised by the African governing body for amateur boxing, the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC).

Yousry Hafez is an Egyptian amateur boxer who competed at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships. He has also won gold medals at the 2018 Mediterranean Games and 2019 African Games.

Nadine Apetz is a German amateur boxer. She won bronze medals at the World Championships in 2016 and 2018, and gold at the 2017 EU Championships. In 2021, she became the first German woman to qualify for a boxing event at the Summer Olympic Games.

Oumaïma Belahbib, also known as Oumayma Belahbib or Oumayma Bel Ahbib, is a Moroccan amateur boxer, who won a gold medal at the 2017 African Amateur Boxing Championships, and a bronze medal at the 2019 African Games. She has competed in the welterweight event at the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics.

Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine is an Italian amateur boxer. He participated at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships, being awarded the silver medal in the heavyweight event. Abbes Mouhiidine also participated at the 2022 European Amateur Boxing Championships, being awarded the gold medal in the heavyweight event.

Lasha Guruli is a Georgian boxer. He participated at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships, being awarded the bronze medal in the welterweight event. Guruli also participated at the 2022 European Amateur Boxing Championships, being awarded the silver medal in the welterweight event.

Victor Schelstraete is a Belgian boxer. He participated at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships, being awarded the bronze medal in the cruiserweight event. Schelstraete was the first and only person of his country to win a medal.

Ayoub Ghadfa is a Spanish boxer. He participated at the 2022 European Amateur Boxing Championships, being awarded the bronze medal in the super heavyweight event. Ghadfa also participated at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships in the super heavyweight event, winning no medal.
