Jonas Junias Jonas (born 24 November 1993 in Swakopmund) is a Namibian boxer and a participant in the 2016 Summer Olympics. [1] [2]
Jonas attended Vrederede Primary School, Atlantic Junior Secondary School, and SI Gobs Secondary School. He gained fame in 2014 when he won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games at the age of 20. In the process, he became only the fourth Namibian boxer to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games.
He competed in the men's light welterweight class at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He was defeated by Hassan Amzile of France in the round of 32. [3] He was the flagbearer for Namibia during the Parade of Nations. [4]
Kipchoge Hezekiah Keino is a retired Kenyan track and field athlete. He was the chairman of the Kenyan Olympic Committee (KOC) until 29 September 2017. A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Keino was among the first in a long line of successful middle and long distance runners to come from the country and has helped and inspired many of his countrymen and women to become the athletics force that they are today. In 2000, he became an honorary member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In 2012, he was one of 24 athletes inducted as inaugural members of the IAAF Hall of Fame.
Patrick Gerard Barnes is an Irish former boxer who competed as an amateur from 2005 to 2016 and as a professional from 2016 to 2019. As an amateur he competed in the light-flyweight division, representing Ireland at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics; winning bronze medals in Beijing and London, and represented Northern Ireland at the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games; winning a gold medal apiece at the two events. As a professional, he challenged for the WBC flyweight title in 2018.

At the 2020 African Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament, he was defeated in the quarterfinals by Stephen Zimba by referee stoppage in the second round.
Namibia competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the nation's eighth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics.
Namibia competed at the 2019 African Games held from 19 to 31 August 2019 in Rabat, Morocco. Early on 56 athletes were scheduled to represent Namibia in 10 sports. This later grew to 68 athletes in 13 sports. In total two gold medals, two silver medals and four bronze medals were won and the country finished in 16th place in the medal table, shared with Angola. Most medals were won in cycling.
