The Player Draft for the 2nd season of the Pakistan Super League was held at Dubai on 19 October 2016. [1] [2] A total of 414 players, including Pakistani and foreign cricketers, were divided into five different categories: Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver and Emerging. [3] [4] The salary-spending cap for a franchise was US$1.2 million, including the signing of players, coaches and support staff. [5] Each team was allowed to pick eight foreign and 12 domestic players in a squad of up to 20. [6]

Player contracts and salaries

Each player who participates in the PSL is categorized in a group according to their "value", from Platinum class players at the top end through to Emerging class players at the bottom. Salaries in the league are generally determined by the category the player falls into. During the 2017 Pakistan Super League Platinum class players will earn a base salary of US$140,000, Diamond class players US$70,000, Gold class players $50,000, Silver class $25,000 and Emerging players $10,000.

Supplementary players are picked by teams but are not paid unless they join the squad for the tournament at which point their contracts will commence. For Supplementary players there is no contractual base salary.

Transfers

The Pakistan Super League player transfer window was between 15 July and 15 September 2016. The following transfers took place. [7]

The 2018 Pakistan Super League player draft was the player draft for third season of the Pakistan Super League, held on 12 November 2017 in Lahore. Each franchise was allowed to pick 16 players from total 501 players; including Pakistani and foreign cricketers who took part in the draft. They divided into five different categories; Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver and Emerging and Supplementary. This was Multan Sultans' inaugural season, they were allowed to pick 9 players prior to the draft.

The Peshawar Zalmi is a franchise cricket team that represents Peshawar in the Pakistan Super League. They are one of the five original teams. After the Multan Sultans joined the league, the league was expanded to six teams that took part in the 2018 Pakistan Super League. They defeated Quetta Gladiators in the final to win their maiden PSL title and making them defending champion in 2018.

As this season was scheduled to be held entirely in Pakistan, only the players who were comfortable with playing in Pakistan were included in this draft.

The player draft for the sixth edition of the 2021 Pakistan Super League took place on 10 January 2021. Before the draft, the teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 8 players and make any transfers that they saw necessary. More than 400 players from over 20 different countries featured at the draft. From these players, the teams each selected 16 players along with 2 extra supplementary players to complete their 18-man squads. The draft was completed one month before the main tournament the 2021 Pakistan Super League started, in late February. Due to the suspension of the tournament because of COVID-19, a replacement draft was held.

2023 Pakistan Super League was the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League, a franchise Twenty20 cricket league which was established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2015. Then PCB chairman Ramiz Raja had hinted at an auction based system to replace the draft for the 2023 season but a draft was retained. The draft for the tournament was held on 15 December in Karachi. A total of 36 foreign players were picked alongside local players. Lahore Qalandars were the defending champions.

The players draft for the seventh season of Pakistan Super League took place on 12 December 2021 at the High Performance Centre in Lahore. Before the draft, the teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 8 players and make any transfers. The transfer and retention window closed on 10 December 2021.

The player draft for the 2023 Pakistan Super League was held on 15 December 2022. Before the draft teams were allowed to retain a maximum of eight players and make transfers.

The player draft for the 2024 Pakistan Super League was held on 13 December 2023 at the National Cricket Academy, Lahore. Before the draft, teams were allowed to retain a maximum of eight players and make transfers.
