The player draft for the 2024 Pakistan Super League was held on 13 December 2023 at the National Cricket Academy, Lahore. [1] [2] Before the draft, teams were allowed to retain a maximum of eight players and make transfers. [3] [4]

Background

The Pakistan Cricket Board announced that Quetta Gladiators will have the first pick in the draft. [5] A total of 485 foreign players registered for the tournament. [6]

Each team had the right to exercise one wildcard pick. Each team had a right-to-match card which allowed franchises to buy back a maximum of one player they have released by paying a set fee in each category. [4]

Transfers

Hasan Ali and Islamabad's first round silver pick were traded from Islamabad United to Karachi Kings in return for Imad Wasim and Karachi's second round silver pick. [7] [8] Iftikhar Ahmed and Quetta's first round platinum pick were traded from Quetta Gladiators to Multan Sultans in exchange for Rilee Rossouw and Multan's first round silver pick. [9] [10] Naseem Shah and Quetta's third round platinum pick were traded from Quetta Gladiators to Islamabad United in exchange for Mohammad Wasim, Abrar Ahmed and Islamabad's first round platinum pick. [11] [12] Shan Masood and Multan's fourth round silver pick were traded from Multan Sultans to Karachi Kings in exchange for Faisal Akram and Karachi's first round silver pick. [13] Karachi and Multan also swapped their first round diamond picks. [14]

Retained players

On 7 December 2023, the retained player's list was announced. [4] The franchises were allowed to retain a maximum of eight players from the previous season. All the franchises fully utilized their quota of player retentions apart from Multan Sultans. [4]

Replacements

A supplementary and replacement player draft took place through a conference call on 29 January 2024, in which franchises were allowed to select two additional supplementary players and replacement players for any partially or fully unavailable players. The Peshawar Zalmi is a franchise cricket team that represents Peshawar in the Pakistan Super League. They are one of the five original teams. After the Multan Sultans joined the league, the league was expanded to six teams that took part in the 2018 Pakistan Super League. They defeated Quetta Gladiators in the final to win their maiden PSL title and making them defending champion in 2018.

Before the draft, the teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 8 players and make any transfers that they saw necessary. More than 400 players from over 20 different countries featured at the draft. From these players, the teams each selected 16 players along with 2 extra supplementary players to complete their 18-man squads. The draft was completed one month before the main tournament the 2021 Pakistan Super League started, in late February. Due to the suspension of the tournament because of COVID-19, a replacement draft was held.

2022 Pakistan Super League was the seventh season of the Pakistan Super League, a franchise Twenty20 cricket league which was established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2015. Played between six teams in a double round robin format with strict COVID-19 protocols, the league began on 27 January 2022 with the first phase taking place in Karachi. The second phase including the playoffs took place in Lahore, with the Final played on 27 February where Lahore Qalandars beat Multan Sultans by 42 runs to win their maiden PSL title.

The team is coached by Andy Flower, and remain under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan. The Sultans have previously lifted their maiden PSL title in 2021, making them the defending champions in 2022.

The Karachi Kings is a franchise cricket team which competes in Pakistan Super League (PSL). The team is based in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, Pakistan. The team was coached by Peter Moores, and captained by Babar Azam. The season ended with Karachi Kings losing 9 matches out of 10 and finishing last on the points table. Wasim Akram is the president of Karachi Kings.
