Repechage is a practice in series competitions that allows participants who failed to meet qualifying standards by a small margin to continue to the next round. A well known example is the wild card system.
The Republic of China (Taiwan) competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich for the last time as the "Republic of China". The ROC would not return to the Olympics until 1984 and under the name "Chinese Taipei" due to objections by the People's Republic of China over the political status of Taiwan.
Japan competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. 266 competitors, 156 men and 110 women, took part in 156 events in 28 sports.
Greece competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Greek athletes have competed in every Summer Olympic Games. At the closing ceremony, a Greek segment was performed, as the country hosted the next Olympics in Athens four years later.
The United States competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. 527 competitors, 332 men and 195 women, took part in 230 events in 27 sports. The United States finished outside of the top two in the overall medal count for the first time and in the gold medal count for only the second time.

Portugal competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. 90 competitors, 68 men and 22 women, took part in 71 events in 14 sports.
The men's 100 metres was a sprinting event on the athletics programme at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. It was held on July 14, 1900. 20 athletes from nine nations competed. The event was won by Frank Jarvis of the United States, the second of three straight gold medals by different Americans in the event. Australia medaled in the event for the first time, a bronze by Stan Rowley.

Haiti competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States. The Haitian team consisted of seven competitors: three track and field athletes, two judoka, one swimmer and one tennis player.
The men's single sculls competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London took place at Dorney Lake which, for the purposes of the Games venue, was officially termed Eton Dorney. It was held from 28 July to 3 August. There were 33 competitors from 33 nations. The event was won by Mahé Drysdale of New Zealand, the nation's first victory in the event since 2000. Ondřej Synek of the Czech Republic earned his second consecutive silver in the event; Drysdale and Synek were the 13th and 14th men to win multiple medals in the single sculls; they would go on to be the 5th and 6th to earn three in the event in 2016 when Drysdale repeated as champion and Synek added a bronze. The 2012 bronze went to Alan Campbell, Great Britain's first medal in the event since 1928.
The men's Keirin at the 2012 Olympic Games in London took place at the London Velopark on 7 August.
Kristopher Moitland Cabezas is a two-time Olympic taekwondo practitioner, and a multiple-time Pan American Championship medalist from Costa Rica. Moitland first competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he was eliminated in the heavyweight division, after being defeated by France's Pascal Gentil, who eventually won the bronze medal, during the quarterfinal match, the S Class International Olympic Referee Dr. Mohamed Riad Ibrahim was the Referee of this match. At his second Olympics in Beijing, Moitland improved his tactics and strategies to kick and fight against every opponent in the men's heavyweight category (+80 kg). In the first round, he fought against Korea's Cha Dong-Min, who made his debut at the Olympics. Neither one of them received any points in the first period, until Moitland received two warnings by the judges, and was eliminated from the competition. Because his opponent advanced further into the final round, Moitland automatically qualified for the repechage bout, where he lost to Uzbekistan's Akmal Irgashev by just a single point.
