The 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards ceremony, organized by CJ E&M through its music channel Mnet, took place on December 4 at Nagoya Dome, Japan. It was the 21st ceremony and one of the largest in the show's history, with more than 40,000 people attending. [1]
In August, Mnet responded to reports regarding the venues of the year's ceremony as Hong Kong, where it had been held in the past, was deemed unsafe due to political conflict in the city. On September 29, Mnet announced that the host location of 2019 MAMA will be at Nagoya, Japan, stating that cultural exchange must continue regardless of political matters. [2]

The Mnet Asian Music Award for Best Music Video is an award presented annually by CJ E&M (Mnet) at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. The event was launched in 1999 as the Mnet Video Music Awards and was primarily a music video-centered awards ceremony, modeled after the MTV Video Music Awards. From its inaugural ceremony up until the 2005 awards, the category was officially titled Music Video of the Year and consisted of one of the two daesang prizes, alongside the Most Popular Music Video category. In 2006, the event underwent an overhaul; the daesang status of the category was removed, and it was retitled as "Best Music Video". Meanwhile, the Most Popular Music Video category was discontinued.

The theme for the ceremony is titled "K-POP World Citizenship" with sub-themes per night, "The world we build together" for day 1, and "We are K-POP" for day 2. The ceremony is the first to carry the new rebranded name, the first to take place overseas during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 24th in the show's history.
