The 2019-20 North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's ice hockey season was the 79th season of play for the program and the 7th in the NCHC conference. The Fighting Hawks represented the University of North Dakota and were coached by Brad Berry, in his 5th season. The team won the Penrose Cup, the NCHC regular season championship, for the 3rd time. No postseason was played due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

The 2015–16 North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's ice hockey team was the 75th season of play for the program and 3rd in the NCHC conference. The Fighting Hawks were led by first-year head coach Brad Berry, replacing Dave Hakstol who became head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers. His assistant coaches were Dane Jackson, Matt Shaw, and Karl Goehring. The Fighting Hawks played their home games in Ralph Engelstad Arena and competed in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
Jacob Bernard-Docker is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League while under contract to the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League. Bernard-Docker was drafted in the first round, 26th overall, by the Senators in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
The 2016–17 Denver Pioneers men's ice hockey team represented University of Denver in intercollegiate college ice hockey during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season. The head coach was Jim Montgomery and the team captain was Will Butcher. The team won the 2017 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey tournament. The team's leading scorer was Troy Terry.

The first ten regular season games were played in a "pod" in Omaha, Nebraska at Baxter Arena during the COVID-19 pandemic. North Dakota won its 4th Penrose Cup as regular season champions of the NCHC. UND won the NCHC tournament for the first time in program history.
