The 2020 Texas Tech Red Raiders baseball team represented Texas Tech University during the 2020 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Red Raiders played their home games at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park as a member of the Big 12 Conference. The team was led by 8th year head coach Tim Tadlock. On March 12, the team announced the series against West Virginia would be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. [2] A few days later it was announced that the remainder of the team's season would be cancelled. [3]

Previous season

The 2019 team finished the regular season with a 36–15 record (16–8 in conference play), finishing first in the Big 12. In the conference tournament, the team went 3–2 and were eliminated in game 5 by West Virginia. The Red Raiders finished the NCAA tournament 5–1, with their only loss being in game 5 against conference rival Oklahoma State. The team advanced to the College World Series, but lost 3–5 to Michigan in game 1. The Red Raiders defeated #5 Arkansas 5–4 in game 2 and defeated Florida State 4–1 in game 3. In game 4, Texas Tech was eliminated by Michigan in a lopsided 3–15 defeat. The team finished with an overall record of 46–20.

Tim Tadlock is a collegiate baseball coach and former player. He served as head coach of the Grayson Vikings representing Grayson County College (GCC) (1997–2005) and the Texas Tech Red Raiders representing Texas Tech University (2013–present). Tadlock guided the Grayson Vikings to back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I World Series titles in 1999 and 2000. In 2014, Tadlock led his alma mater to their first College World Series appearance and received the Skip Bertman Award, presented to the college baseball coach of the year by the College Baseball Foundation.

Texas Tech competed in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as a charter member of the Big 12 Conference. The 2022–23 Texas Longhorns men's basketball team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by interim head coach Rodney Terry and played their home games at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas as members of the Big 12 Conference. The Longhorns played at the newly-built Moody Center after playing at Frank Erwin Center for 45 years. They finished the season 23–8, 12–6 in Big 12 play to finish in second place. As the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament, they defeated Oklahoma State, TCU, and top-seeded Kansas to win the tournament. They received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region, where they defeated Colgate, Penn State, and Xavier to reach the Elite Eight, their first appearance since 2008. There, the Longhorns finally fell to Miami (FL), bringing their season to a close with a final record of 29–9.
