Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond were the defending champions, but decided not to defend their title together. Huber partnered up with Nuria Llagostera Vives, while Raymond played alongside Flavia Pennetta. Huber and Llagostera Vives defeated Pennetta and Raymond in the first round, but lost to Anabel Medina Garrigues and Katarina Srebotnik in the semifinals.
Sania Mirza and Zheng Jie won the title, defeating Medina Garrigues and Srebotnik in the final, 6–3, 6–4.
Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza were the defending champions, but Mirza chose to compete in Tokyo instead. Hingis played alongside Jelena Janković, but lost in the semifinals to Olga Govortsova and Vera Lapko.
Sania Mirza and Barbora Strýcová were the defending champions, but chose not to participate together. Mirza played alongside Peng Shuai, but lost in the semifinals to Hsieh Su-wei and Monica Niculescu. Strýcová teamed up with Lucie Šafářová, but lost in the semifinals to Chan Yung-jan and Martina Hingis.
Chan Hao-ching and Latisha Chan were the defending champions, but they lost in the first round to Kateryna Bondarenko and Sharon Fichman.
Tímea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic defeated Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strýcová in the final, 6–2, 6–1 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2020 Australian Open. It was their second Australian Open title together. Despite the loss, Hsieh regained the WTA no. 1 doubles ranking for the first time since 2014, replacing her partner Strýcová. Mladenovic, Aryna Sabalenka and Xu Yifan were also in contention for the top ranking.
Robin Anderson and Jessika Ponchet were the defending champions when the event was held as an ITF W60 event in 2019, but Ponchet was unable to participate due to insufficient ranking. Anderson played alongside Erin Routliffe but lost in the first round to Kaitlyn Christian and Giuliana Olmos.

The 2021 J&T Banka Ostrava Open was a WTA tournament organised for female professional tennis players on indoor hard courts. It was the 2nd edition of the event on the 2021 WTA Tour, primarily organised due to the cancellation of the Asian tournaments during the 2021 season, because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The event took place at the Ostrava Arena in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from 20 through 26 September 2021.
Coco Gauff and Caty McNally were the reigning champions, having won the last edition in 2019, but chose not to defend their title.
Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková defeated Anna Danilina and Beatriz Haddad Maia in the final, 6–7(3–7), 6–4, 6–4 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2022 Australian Open. It was their fourth major title together.
Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva defeated Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens in the final, 7–6(7–3), 7–5 to win the women's doubles title at the 2022 Miami Open.
Gabriela Dabrowski and Giuliana Olmos defeated Desirae Krawczyk and Demi Schuurs in the final, 7–6(7–1), 5–7, [10–7] to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2022 Madrid Open. This was Dabrowski's third consecutive final at the tournament, having lost the previous two editions in 2021 and 2019.
Veronika Kudermetova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated reigning champion Giuliana Olmos and partner Gabriela Dabrowski in the final, 1–6, 6–4, [10–7] to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2022 Italian Open.
Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jeļena Ostapenko won the women's doubles title at the 2022 Birmingham Classic, after Elise Mertens and Zhang Shuai withdrew from the final due to an injury sustained by Zhang during the singles final.
Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková defeated the defending champion Elise Mertens and her partner Zhang Shuai in the final, 6–2, 6–4 to win the ladies' doubles tennis title at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. It was their second Wimbledon title together and fifth major title together overall.
Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula defeated Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez in the final, 6–4, 6–7(5–7), [10–5] to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2022 Canadian Open. With the win, Gauff gained the WTA No. 1 doubles ranking for the first time and became the second-youngest player in history to attain the No. 1 ranking, after Martina Hingis in 1997. Elise Mertens and Zhang Shuai were also in contention for the top ranking.
Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková defeated Caty McNally and Taylor Townsend in the final, 3–6, 7–5, 6–1 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2022 US Open. With the win, they became the first women's pair to complete the career Super Slam in doubles. It was their sixth major title together.

It was their second Australian Open title and seventh major title together, and they extended their winning streak at the majors to 24 matches with the win, dating back to the 2022 Australian Open.
