Menzelinsk is an airport in Russia located 3 km west of Menzelinsk, in the Kama river valley. It is a civilian airfield with small tarmac.
Linxair was a business airline based in Slovenia. It was established and started operations in 1999 at its base, Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU). Linxair was the fastest-growing aviation company in Slovenian history and the biggest business aviation operator in the area of former Yugoslavia. Due to financial difficulties which started in 2009, the company declared bankruptcy in 2014. Shortly before bankruptcy, the company headquarters were moved from Ljubljana to Slovenj Gradec. A small part of the fleet continued operation under another operator, SiAvia.
UTair Flight 120 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Tyumen to Surgut, Russia. On 2 April 2012, the ATR-72 turboprop aircraft operating the flight crashed shortly after take-off from Roschino International Airport, killing 33 of the 43 people on board. Investigation carried out by the Russian Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) revealed that the aircraft had not been de-iced prior to its take-off, even though it had been parked for hours in snowy condition. The crew of the flight were aware that ice and snow had accumulated on the aircraft, but decided not to de-ice it.

Elizaveta Petrovna Glinka was a Russian medical doctor and public figure who founded the Spravedlivaya Pomoshch charity. She was accused of abducting children during the Russo-Ukrainian War by some from the Ukrainian government. Glinka died in the crash of a Russian military plane en route to Syria.

Saratov Airlines Flight 703 was a domestic passenger flight from Moscow Domodedovo Airport to Orsk Airport in Russia. On 11 February 2018, the aircraft serving the flight, an Antonov An-148-100B, crashed shortly after take-off, killing all 71 people on board – 65 passengers and six crew members.
Khabarovsk Airlines Flight 463 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Nikolayevsk-on-Amur Airport to Nelkan Airport in Russia. On 15 November 2017 the Let L-410 Turbolet operating the flight crashed short of the runway at Nelkan Airport, killing all but one of the seven people on board. The sole survivor was a three-year-old girl who sustained serious injuries. The crash was caused by a malfunction of the right engine's propeller.

On 11 May 2021, a school shooting and bomb attack occurred in Kazan, Tatarstan, in the western part of Russia. Nine people were murdered, all of them by gunfire, and 23 others were injured. The 19-year-old shooter, Ilnaz Galyaviev, was identified as a former student. He pleaded guilty to the murder of two or more persons on 12 May and was sentenced to life imprisonment in April 2023.

On 6 July 2021, the Antonov An-26 serving the flight crashed on approach to Palana, killing all 28 passengers and crew on board.
