The 2022 Commonwealth Archery and Shooting Championships, commonly known as Chandigarh 2022, was a proposed sporting event for members of the Commonwealth that was scheduled to be held in Chandigarh, India. [1] Events were to have been held in and archery and shooting.

The Championships were expected to have taken place in January 2022. The Championships were conceived by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) and World Archery Federation (WA) following the exclusion of both sports from the programme of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Approved and recognized by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), the event were to be separate from the main Games, but medals won in Chandigarh were counted with medals won in Birmingham in an official medal table published a week after the completion of the Games.

In July 2021, the CGF announced that the event had been cancelled as a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic. [2]

1982 Commonwealth Games 12th edition of the Commonwealth Games

The 1982 Commonwealth Games were held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia from 30 September to 9 October 1982. The Opening Ceremony was held at the QEII Stadium, in the Brisbane suburb of Nathan. The QEII Stadium was also the venue which was used for the athletics and archery competitions during the Games. Other events were held at the purpose-built Sleeman Sports Complex in Chandler.

A demonstration sport is a sport which is played to promote it, rather than as part of standard medal competition. This occurs most commonly during the Olympic Games, but also at other sporting events.

Commonwealth Youth Games

The Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) is an international multi-sport event organized by the Commonwealth Games Federation. The games were held in the years, mid-way between when the Commonwealth Games are held, until 2008. They continued to be held every four years, but in the year after the Commonwealth Games are held, from 2011 to 2015. Since 2017, they've been held in the year before the Commonwealth Games are held. The first edition was held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 10–14 August 2000. The age limitation of the athletes is from 14 to 18.

The Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships is a shooting championship for Commonwealth countries. It is often held as a test event for the Commonwealth Games.

Abhinav Bindra Indian businessman and retired professional shooter

Lieutenant Colonel Abhinav Apjit Bindra is an Indian Olympic gold medallist, retired sport shooter, and businessman. He is the first and one of only 2 Indians to win an Individual Olympic Gold Medal. He is the first Indian to have held concurrently the world and Olympic titles for the men's 10-meter air rifle event, having earned those honors at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2006 ISSF World Shooting Championships. Bindra has also won seven medals at the Commonwealth Games and three medals at the Asian Games.

Commonwealth Games sports

The Commonwealth Games sports comprise all the sports officially recognised and approved by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). There are a total of 16 core sports and a further 4 core para-sports that are competed at every games. In addition, the CGF allow organising committees to choose from various optional sports and disciplines to complete their games' program.

It was the second time that the recurve individual event for women had been included in the Commonwealth Games and the first time it had been contested since the 1982 Games in Brisbane, Australia.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that is scheduled to be held in Birmingham, England from 28 July to 8 August 2022. Birmingham was announced as host on 21 December 2017, marking England's third time hosting the Games behind Manchester 2002 and London 1934. The Games were originally awarded to Durban, South Africa, which withdrew in 2017 due to financial issues.

The Commonwealth Paraplegic Games were an international, multi-sport event involving athletes with a disability from the Commonwealth countries. The event was sometimes referred to as the Paraplegic Empire Games and British Commonwealth Paraplegic Games. Athletes were generally those with spinal injuries or polio. The Games were an important milestone in the Paralympic sports movement as they began the decline of the Stoke Mandeville Games' dominating influence. The event was first held in 1962 and disestablished in 1974. The Games were held in the country hosting the Commonwealth Games for able-bodied athletes.

Doris Mary Jones was the junior world compound bow archery champion in 2006. She is a Métis from Selkirk, Canada. Doris has been an archer since the age of four, competing all over the world, and is active with the Manitoba Metis Federation.

Bids for the 2026 Commonwealth Games

An extensive bidding process for the 2026 Commonwealth Games began in 2018, and ended in 2022 with the announcement of the state of Victoria, Australia being the host. The host city was to be announced in 2019 in Rwanda, but was cancelled over lack of interest. The winning bid was announced by Dame Louise Martin, head of the CWG.
